We are planning an upgrade of our entire core network shortly. We want to be able to notify anyone email into us that we will be down for x amount of days. Is it possible in FOPE to have a kind of out of office to achieve this?

FOPE doen't have a out of office kind of feature to notify the senders that you are down for X amount of days. But, a delay notification will be sent to every sender after 6hours from the time they sent emails, notifying that their mail was not delivered and the server will keep trying to deliver their message for 5days. FOPE will have these messages in its deferral queue for 5 days before they expire. In case your server is back online within 5 days these messages will be delivered but if not the messages are purged and a permanent NDR will be sent to the sender.

Thank you for your response.
I suspected as much. Luckily we had our Exchange environment back up within 24 hours so the end-user interuption was minimal.
