SBS 2008 & Forefront Exchange 2010

Uninstalled the Forefront for Exchange that ships with SBS 2008 and installed the new Forefront 2010 for Exchange. Everything works great but I have a problem with the SBS Console alert. In Forefront Exchange 2010, the Forefront engine takes over the anti-SPAM function from Exchange and that is a good thing, but now the inherent SBS 2008 console has an error message under SECURITY for "Spam protection for E-Mail" as CRITICAL. I know what the problem is but I do not know how to disable the alert. Now that Excahnge is no longer handling anti-SPAM, the SBS server sees the function inactive and issues an alert sice it is unaware that that role is now filled by the Forefront 2010 anti-spam engine. Is there a method do disable the SBS Consoel alert on the SECURITY tab? Everything is working great with Forefront Exchange 2010 on SBS 2008 other than this little alert that is bugging me.

Is the anyone else having a problem the the Forefront DNBL feature in the Released verision of FPE? When I turn it on, it blocks every IP address which connects to the edge transport server.

Now all spam going to inbox folder in Outlook. And nothing to Junk mail. In Outlook level - only trusted addreses.

I am testing Forefront Beta2 Stirling along with Exchange 2010. Between all of the Forefront services/scanners, over 4GB of ram is being consumed. Is this by design?

Hi,

I've got Exchange 2010 Beta 1 setup and routing Internet mail with no issues. As soon as I install Forefront Beta 2 "Sterling" all incoming mail bounces back with this error message:
550 5.7.1 :UnknownReturnCode:Client host xx.xx.xx.xx Has anyone ran into this before? I've added my internet domain to the list of domains in forefront and restarted all services and even bounced the box but it didn't help. Uninstalling Forefront and bouncing the box takes fixes the issue. I'm new to forefront so any help would be appreciated.

Antispam Features

Do the new antispam features of FSE 2010 replace the antispam features of Exchange or will it simply integrate with the antispam features.
For example exchange already does connection filtering and content filtering. If you us the native exchange antispam features should you disable forefronts or if you use forefronts antispams features should you disable the corresponding exchange antispam feature?

Specifically with forefronts new Cloudmark conternt filtering engine which is supposed to be much beter than exchange 2007 content filtering engine.

Compressed file scanning

I am trying to figure out why Forefront for exchange is not scanning inside .zip files for inbound mail. I have Forefront configured to block/quarantine .exe files in email. From an outside email account I send an email with a .exe attachment. I then get a message from Forefront saying it has quarantined the email (okay, all good). Now is use WinZip and zip the .exe file. I then send another test email with the .zip file attached. This time the message comes thru and the attachment is replaced by a .txt file which says “The attachment has been removed”. This is exchange ‘attachment filter’ removing the attachment and not Forefront. There is no log in Forefront that I can see, showing if the message was even scanned by Forefront.

I’ve verified the transport-agent settings in exchange ‘FSE Routing Agent’ has priority ‘10’ and ‘Attachment Filter Agent’ priority ‘11’.

My file filters in forefront are as follows:

Filter list named "FileTypeFilter" with *.* in the list. File types selected are 'ani' 'arc' 'arj' 'dataz' 'exe' 'is_uninst' 'iscab' 'jar' 'javaclass' 'mac' 'mscab' 'mslibrary' 'obj' 'pif' 'rar' 'sfxexe' Set to enable with action delete remove contents and 'Send notification' and 'quarantine files' selected.

Second filter list named "Restricted Files" with *.exe* among others in the list. File types are set to 'All Types' The filter is enabled with action set to delete remove contents and 'Send notification' and 'Quarantine Files' selected.

Domain Blocked By Customer

Our customer is running forefront for exchange. For some reason our domain is getting blocked. I have spoken with the network admin on their side on several occasions and he is neglegent to the fact that it is infact their system. He states that he added us to the white list, and etc. I think that it is in fact forefront. This is the only customer that we have problems with and the only one that we know of that is running forefront. We have no 3rd praty software running on our exchange that restricts outgoing mail. Only incoming. Also, i have sent and email from another domain (our parent company) and it accepts it fine. Same as with web accounts (yahoo, etc) i have tried everything on my end and KNOW for 100% fact that it is not on our side.

He is so difficult to work with and have never gotten into any depth with forefront. I have went into everything i know of on their system as well as ours in regards to exchange. I just do not know a lot about forefront. Any help, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am the owner of my computer but for some reason I can not sign in unless I sign on as a guest. How do I get my computer to accept my password again? for some reason it doesn't reconize me and I havent changed my password at all. So, what can I do? I even went into the tools to see if certain things were checked and they was, but that isn't helping me to get back into my computer. Do I need to take it back to the shop to get repaired or can someone help me ?

Network issue when join to domain

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong section.

I have a very odd issue that I can not figure out with network adapters failing after joining machines to domain.

I have a Windows 2003 server, Joining Windows XP Pro works fine, but when I join (Windows XP Pro 64bit, Vista 32bit, Vista 64bit) to the domain their network adapters would fail. It would try to search for connection and never finds one. (This is both local area connection and wireless connection).

With Windows XP Pro 64bit I can get the network adapters to work with the steps below, but it would only work for a short while.

Restart the computer.
2. When the BIOS information appears, press F8.
3. Select safemode with networking, and then press ENTER.
4. Use local Amind password to log on.
5. Click Start, and then click Run.
6. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
7. Locate the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
8. Right-click each key, and then click Delete.
9. Click Yes to confirm the deletion of each key.
10. Close Regedit.
11. Locate the Nettcpip.inf file in %winroot%\inf, and then open the file in Notepad.
12. Locate the [MS_TCPIP.PrimaryInstall] section.
13. Edit the Characteristics = 0xa0 entry and replace 0xa0 with 0x80.
14. Save the file, and then exit Notepad.
15. In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
16. On the General tab, click Install, select Protocol, and then click Add.
17. In the Select Network Protocols window, click Have Disk.
18. In the Copy manufacturer's files from: text box, type c:\windows\inf, and then click OK.
19. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

Note This step will return you to the Local Area Connection Properties screen, but now the Uninstall button is available.
20. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click Uninstall, and then click Yes.
21. Restart your computer, and then select SafeMode with Networking as mentioned in steps 2 - 4.
22. In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
23. On the General tab, click Install, select Protocol, and then click Add.
24. In the Select Network Protocols window, click Have Disk.
25. In the Copy Manufacturer's files from text box, type c:\windows\inf, and then click OK.

Is it something with my Group Policy? Where can I find out what policy controls the machines?

Also to add, before joining to my domain, the machines network works 100% fine, its only when I join the machine to the domain, and this is with IBM T400, T61p, T60.

Exchange and OWE - how many servers?

How many servers are needed to run Exchange with the OWE as well? Do you need a separate server for the Front if Exchange is loaded on the back end?

When installing the Stirling version of FSE on Server 2008, setup gives an error if .Net Framework is missing:

"Name: .Net 3.0 Windows Communication Foundation.
On Windows Server 2008 please use the Roles Manager to install it. For earlier versions of Windows, the location of the update is: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043."

But the name .Net 3.0 Windows Communication Foundation cannot be found in Roles Manager. See servermanagercmd -i:
