Unknow vs out-of-state policy in the Deployment Summary report?

This question pertains to when I run a "Deployment Summary" report. I notice that I have 2 computers getting 2 different policy warnings.
I have read up on the "out-of-date" policy, and I understand what this means. However, I have tried to research the "unknown" policy and I was unable to find any results. Can someone please explain to me the difference between the "out-of-date" policy vs the "unknown" policy?
Or at least tell me what exactly the "unknown" policy warning is?
