Internet CONTENT filtering for ISA 2006
Internet CONTENT filtering for ISA 2006
- We've recently installed an ISA server as our firewall / internet gateway to replace a legacy linux system that no-one knows how to use. We wanted to move everything to a windows based system.
We're a school, so internet filtering is very important. Content filtering is the key, and this job was done very well with weighted phrases and banned words by DansGuardian on Linux, previously.
Is there a way to filter web CONTENT - text, meta tags, etc using ISA 2006 (we were told there was, hence we installed it). I can't find anything suitable. I don't want to monitor - I want to filter. Please let me know if you currently use somthing like this in your organisation.
Currently we're banning over a million domains and URLs using ISA firewall rules, but if you type the 'f' word into google image search, guess what you get? Not good.
Thanks

- Well ISA has nothing "built-in" but there are plenty of partners providing addons in this area.
However... do take a look att next generation of ISA called TMG.
Planned for RTM Q4 (november?) it has, among many other features, built-in URLf with categoirization that looks like what you need.- Marked As Answer byNick Gu - MSFTMSFT, ModeratorFriday, October 09, 2009 1:44 AM

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
Yes, I agree with Kent. ISA not has any “built-in” web content filter. But you can customize and extend this feature by using third-party solutions. For more information, please refer to the following link:

- Dave,
You may want to download TMG Beta 3 and take a look at it for your URL filtering needs.

RC should release soon and hopefully RTM sometime in late November (of course this is always subject to change)- Marked As Answer byNick Gu - MSFTMSFT, ModeratorFriday, October 09, 2009 1:44 AM

- Thanks to everyone for their replies (don't know why but I just received all 3 alerts at the same time today!).
I thought as much, but wondered if anyone out there had used any of these add-ons with any success. I'm going to download a trial of GFI webmonitor which claims to do content filtering.
The guy who set up the old system is certain that if you want to filter the internet, you HAVE to use linux. I'll be amazed if this is the case.
Thanks for the info on TMG, I'll have to look into that.
