AnswerStirling and SCOM 2007

Does anyone know if Stirling will come with SCOM 2007 or are you requered to purchase a license seperately. On the same note if you already have a deployment of SCOM 2007 will you be able to use that instead of a seperate installation? Like the FCSMC it seems a little redunant to have two MOM clients on the same machine as well a two seperate MOM servers.

    THanks

This can't be answered directly for 2 reasons.
One, Stirling is still in beta form, so there's no way to no what might happen between now and RTM.
Second, what is known is under NDA so it can not be divulged.
I can tell you though that purchasing Stirling will not give you the full functionality of SCOM 2007, but if you already have SCOM up and running, you will not need to install a separate parallel system just for Stirling.

    Hi folks
While the packaging/licensing strategy is not available, I can definitely say that Stirling will not install OpsMgr 2007 (unlike FCS v1, which did install MOM 2005).

I would not make any confirmed statements on full functionality of OpsMgr 2007 at this time.  I will say that even if you have OpsMgr 2007 installed, you may need to add additional H/W to scale your deployment to cover all the assets you wish to manage

    Thanks

Thank You for the info. SO basically it will be like FCS v1 with a basic version of MOM 2005.  My company is doing plaing for next year and SCOM and stirling is on the list. But with so little info out its hard to plan for both. It woudl be great if you could use your SCOM 2007 deployment with stirling. I saw in a previous webcast about the posibility of using the SCOM datawarehouse with stirling. So hopefully as more info comes out we will see more integration with SCOM.

    Thanks.

That makes sense since in the beta it lists SCOM 2007 as a prereq unlike FCS v1 which installs MOM 2005 as part of the program.  Thanks fo the info. Can you say when we might see a beta2 of stirling or when more info will be released?

Does anyone know if stirling necessarily must work with scom to operate as anti every threat??

    Jacob,
You do not need to be running SCOM on your network in order to be able to use Stirling. Stirling's client security piece will use a SCOM agent to manage the agent on the client, but this will be a different SCOM client than the standard client that SCOM uses.
I know this seems a bit confusing, please feel free to respond if you need further assistance.

Ok so now I'm confused. So you will be able to use Stirling withouht SCOM. I have a couple questions now.
    1. What functionallity will you loose by not dpeloying SCOM
    2. Can you give more details on how Stirling be deployed with an existing SCOM deployment?
              a. Will you have to create a seperate managment group?
              b. will clients need to be dualed homed to multiple managment groups or have multiple SCOM agents deployed?

    Thanks.
