Have you tried a repair?

Hank Arnold (MVP - DS)Mon, 08 Jun 2009 07:29:21 Z2009-06-08T07:29:21Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#28c2f2b8-b23e-49a8-9b60-534b0486bae1http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#28c2f2b8-b23e-49a8-9b60-534b0486bae1cofemanhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=cofemanOutlook 2003 help neededHow do I check the event logs? I did try a registry repair via registry repair download. I defragged, virus software & nothing changed.Mon, 08 Jun 2009 10:38:20 Z2009-06-08T10:38:20Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#84aedd7a-c11b-4f41-95a4-c99e1dc296c4http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#84aedd7a-c11b-4f41-95a4-c99e1dc296c4cofemanhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=cofemanOutlook 2003 help neededHank, I should also say that Outlook wants to start in Safe Mode, but can't do that either.Mon, 08 Jun 2009 10:41:51 Z2009-06-08T10:41:51Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#09f96beb-3220-4dc8-8bdb-e95dd6840335http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#09f96beb-3220-4dc8-8bdb-e95dd6840335Hank Arnoldhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Hank%20ArnoldOutlook 2003 help needed
Event logs: Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer

Repair: Start/Control Panel/Add Remove programs
Double click on Microsoft Office and select the "Repair" option.

Hank Arnold (MVP- DS)

Mon, 08 Jun 2009 11:06:07 Z2009-06-08T11:06:07Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#aa679808-a122-4491-ac09-3668a444d115http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#aa679808-a122-4491-ac09-3668a444d115cofemanhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=cofemanOutlook 2003 help neededHank, Thank you for your continued response. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner but it was a busy day.

I did look at the event logs & they are jammed pack with data. What should I be looking for? I see a lot of "error' flags amongst them.

Also, I didn't find a repair where you indicated, but I did do a system restore to the day before I did any upgrading but that didn't repair the problem. As a matter of fact I lost the internet connection too then. I however, did do a repair from a "Free WIndow Registry Repair" I found on "Downloads.com", but that didn't solve the problem either.

Appreciate your continued help.

EvanTue, 09 Jun 2009 00:55:13 Z2009-06-09T00:55:13Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#fdb60d4c-5062-4c9f-9a3f-0ceb46f013fbhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#fdb60d4c-5062-4c9f-9a3f-0ceb46f013fbHank Arnoldhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Hank%20ArnoldOutlook 2003 help neededNo problem. I only look at this stuff in the AM before I go to work.

You are looking for errors that mention Outlook or MS Office. A very useful site to trouble shoot errors in the event logs is http://eventid.net. You enter the event ID and the source and you will get a listing of other folks' experiences (and solutions).

What do you see when you double click on "Microsoft Office ....."? You should see two buttons: "Remove" and "Change". If all else fails, try re-running the installation CD. YOu should get the option of removing or repairing the program.

Hank Arnold (MVP - DS)Tue, 09 Jun 2009 08:13:13 Z2009-06-09T08:13:13Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#d63ae1eb-ab6f-4a13-ac24-ad51a5d20284http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#d63ae1eb-ab6f-4a13-ac24-ad51a5d20284cofemanhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=cofemanOutlook 2003 help neededHank, my concern is if I re-run the installation CD I will lose all of my data. Is that likely?

I will spend time on this issue tomorrow - Friday - out of the office all day & too tired upon return to tackle. I fould eventid.net very informative & will pursue further.

I did restores as well as repairs along the way to no avail. Should you have any other ideas please share.

Thanks again.

EvanWed, 10 Jun 2009 20:24:19 Z2009-06-10T20:24:19Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#693fb04a-4936-456c-8e18-e8bef6a2871dhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/TNPlans/thread/12811ee5-4e8c-4f56-81d2-c22ef63e3af0#693fb04a-4936-456c-8e18-e8bef6a2871dHank Arnoldhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Hank%20ArnoldOutlook 2003 help neededNot likely. A repair will just reinstall the program. Your data should remain intact.

Hank ARnold (MVPN - DS)Thu, 11 Jun 2009 09:29:15 Z2009-06-11T09:29:15Z
