Does Microsoft Office 2003 work correctly with Windows 8? And will it work correctly with the RTM version of Windows 8?

According to Windows 8 Consumer Preview Compatibility Center, all softwares part of Office 2003 Suite are compatible with Windows 8 32-bit and 64-bit versions - except Project 2003 which is incompatible with 64-bit Windows 8.
Most Software compatible with Windows Vista or 7 should also work fine on Windows 8. Device drivers are an exception though.

Actually, the results of that link indicate exactly the opposite... Office 2003 is not compatible with Windows 8. But that's likely to be because Microsoft is ending support for Office 2003.
It would be more instructive to know if anyone has actually tried Office 2003 in Windows 8... Anyone?

Yes the link says it's not compatible now, but before the RTM (build 9200) version (with the Developer Preview, Consumer Preview and Release Preview) the compatibility center said it was compatible.
I don't know if it's working on win8 or not. I upgraded to Office 2010.
The compatibility center says however Office 2007 (and newer) is still compatible.

Sunday, October 28, 2012 10:36 AMOk that is good information to know that Office 2003 works on Windows 8. But can you check if Windows Update on Windows 8 works correctly ? Because some web sites report windows Update problems due to Office 2003 on Windows 8.

Tuesday, November 06, 2012 7:10 PMMy short experience is "no" not everything works. There are some workarounds I've found, but I think it's probably easiest for me now to go buy Windows 2010.

It would be a lot more helpful if you detailed what exactly doesn't work and your "workarounds".

I realise you have since upgraded to Office-2010, but this may help others in same the predicament.
I recently (December 2012) upgraded my ASUS-U36SD to:
Windows-8 Pro v6.2.9200 (x64)
This caused a few problems:
1- Hotkeys stopped working,
2- Office-2003 kept requesting the EULA to be accepted, on EVERY opening
3- Project-2000 works fine with no issues
Even though there were EULA issues, the programs still worked. After I installed and ran "FileFormatConverters.exe" to convert 2010 files to Office2003, the EULA issue ceased for Word but continued for Outlook, Excel and Power Point.
If anyone knows of a way of stopping the EULA, please advise.

There are many possible things which can be done like-
1. Ensuring that Office 2003 is updated (Office 2003 SP3 + all updates released).
2. Repair installation of Office 2003.
3. Slipstreaming SP3 into Office 2003 and then installing it.

Runtime Error keeps appearing after I upgraded it to SP3 (no error appeared during installation); works perfectly fine if I don't upgrade OFFICE 2003 to SP3 version.
But Windows Update always upgrades OFFICE 2003 to SP3 version (haven't figured out the way to cancel that upgrade); I have deleted OFFICE 2003 so can't tell you guys the exact name of the runtime error~ sorry~~

I have Office 2003 running happily on a customer's Windows 8 64 bit PC except that for some reason I am unable to set Outlook as the default mail handler...
Sunday, February 17, 2013 2:12 PMI installed office 2003 (with Access and Outlook) a few days ago on my new notebook which came with win8/64 preinstalled. Downloaded all available updates. So far I don't have any issues at all.
In fact, on this small not very powerful computer I prefer it to office2010 (which I have on another machine), as it is much faster, especially Word.
