Need help w/ namespace and feed data interpretation in PowerPivot

    General discussion

  • Disclaimer: I'm very new to PowerPivot, and also am not sure that this is the correct forum to post in. Feel free to redirect me if necessary!

    Using PowerPivot, I was abe to use a sample feed with expected results. The example shows that the namespace as follows:

    p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px 'Times New Roman'; color: #2b29ee} span.s1 {color: #000000} span.s2 {text-decoration: underline}

    <feed xml:base="http://ogdi.cloudapp.net/v1/dc/" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">

    The sample entries look like this:

    p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Courier} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Courier; color: #2b29ee} span.s1 {color: #000000} span.s2 {text-decoration: underline}

      <entry m:etag="W/&quot;datetime'2010-04-07T21%3A28%3A13.1552775Z'&quot;">

        <id>http://ogdi.cloudapp.net/v1/dc/BankLocations(PartitionKey='AdamsBank',RowKey='076a3b3d-88c1-460a-900a-1fa87bdb5c46')</id>

    PowerPivot does a nice job of reporting the column headers with the following (basically a direct map of the property entries) and their values.

    Partition key, Row key, Timestamp, entity Id, Name, Address, zipcode, address id.

    If the Microsoft (m & d) namespaces are removed from the feed element (or even slightly modified like "..MicrosoftXX.com", PowerPivot displays the entry data as

    p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Courier}

    Content@type, content, id, published, rights, summary, title, subtitle, updated.

    My question here is how does PowerPivot use the namespace declaration in the feed element to parse and interpret and display the data? Does PowerPivot have apriori or built-in knowledge of these namespaces?

    Thanks,

    Wim
