Strange behavior when onsite with DirectAccess (ManagedAdddress & Other

    Question

  • Looks like when I added the DirectAccess logs it blew away my explanation of the problem. :(

Here is what the problem is in a nutshell.
    1. The DCA tray says Direct Access is broken "Your computer is not configured correctly for DirectAccess. IPv6 is not enabled correctly." when on our work network. However things seem to work just fine.
    2. Reviewing the logs I couldn't see anything that stood out which was broken.
    3. Connected laptop to our Verizon HotSpot which is off the work network and DCA reported it was working correctly.
    4. Switched back to our wireless and Direct Access was now working properly.

I generated logs when it was broken, when I was on the hotspot and when I came back and it reported that it was working correctly. The configuration logs were pretty much identical except for when off the network it was shown as off the network and Direct Access was configured and enabled. There was also a teredo tunnel open.

I then used NotePad ++ to compare the logs for when it was broken on the work network and when it was working. The only differences I found were when the command netsh int ipv6 show int level=verbose is run. The IPHttpsTunnel reports that Managed Address Configuration and Other Stateful Configuration were both set to enabled. However when the DirectAccess appears to be working correctly on the work network these are set to disabled.

I tried to manually set these two parameters for the httpstunnel to disabled to see if it would fix the problem however I can't seem to get netsh to do this for me.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh int ipv6 set int httpstunnel managedaddress=disabled
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

Why are these two values randomly getting set to enabled? How can we change these back to disabled using netsh? Has anyone else seen this problem before? I've seen this come up on a dozen or so machines over the past few months.

RED: Corporate connectivity is not working.
Your computer is not configured correctly for DirectAccess. IPv6 is not enabled correctly.

  • A little more information it looks like I figured out how to change managed address and other stateful to disabled however the settings don't stick

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh interface ipv6 show interfaces

    Idx     Met         MTU          State                Name
    ---  ----------  ----------  ------------  ---------------------------
      1          50  4294967295  connected     Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
     11          50        1280  disconnected  Local Area Connection* 11
     12          10        1500  connected     Local Area Connection
     16          50        1280  disconnected  iphttpsinterface
     15          40        1500  disconnected  Bluetooth Network Connection

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh interface ipv6 set int 16 managedaddress=disabled
    Ok.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh interface ipv6 set int 16 otherstateful=disabled

When I another netsh int ipv6 show int level=verbose however I see they are still set to enabled.
