Help! Error 25122, The installation program was unable to register the ASP .NET web service extension.

I am trying to install App-V on a 64-bit Windows 2008 server. The install almost finishes but then errors out with "Error 25122, The installation program was unable to register the ASP .NET web service extension."

I have searched the web but no one seems to have the answer. Please Help!

Isolating applications

I have 2 applications. Application A is a sequenced package of the application and Java v10 all in one package.
The other application that I have (application B) is a web-based application that requires Java v15.

The issue that I am seeing when testing is because of the file association rule, when I install Java v15 locally on the users desktops application A does not work correctly because it no longer has the file association to Java v10. If I uninstall the app and re-install it, application A works perfectly but application B no longer functions the right way because it's trying to use Java v10 instead of 15.

Basically what I want to do, or know, is if I can isolate application A to specifically only use Java v10 when launched regardless of what other version of Java might be installed on the desktop, or when it was installed.
The other issue I have is that both applications are used by alot of different users so they cross several AD groups.

Can this isolation be done?

I got this error while sequencing "Quest Software TOAD" application.

ORACLE is a dependency for this application. I have edited the OSD file of TOAD and added the dependencies tag.

The SoftGrid Client could not launch QuestSoftware

TOAD 901 ENG 9.0.1.8.

The Client cannot launch two applications in the

same suite that use different settings files. Please

report the following error code to your System

Administrator.

Error code: 450260-0E806104-0000120A

Note: I get this error only after multiple launches... Not sure whether this hint will help tho...

Need better instructions on getting App-V client to SCCM clients.

I need some additional help in distributing the App-V client to my SCCM clients.

I have imported the .SMS package into SMS, but something doesn;t look quite right in there.

this is the command line that is automatically generated...

setup.exe /s /v"/quiet /norestart /qn"0\"\"

What is the deal with that 0\"\" at the end? I can't find any examples of this anywhere. Also, why the specification of both /quiet /norestart and /qn?Please note that this command line is automatically generated when adding the AppVertMgmtClient.SMS package definition - not something I found on the internet or made up myself.

I would like to set the App-V cache size and the disk volume to use.

I'm trying...

setup.exe /s /v"/quiet /norestart /qn SWICACACHESIZE=\"8192\" SWIFSDRIVE=\"B:\""0\"\"

When I push it out like that, setup.exe just hangs - no error, but it also never quits.

I've looked at the instructions here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512024.aspx and they do not mention any command line customizations. I've been to look here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc843737.aspx but I can't figure out what stuff I need to set and what is set for my by SCCM. Am I even allowed to specify a different default drive? I can't find any place in the SCCM console where you can set App-V settings so I assume I need to manage them on my own either by setting variables in the setup command line or by using a GPO admin template.

On that page it says that a prerequisite is "Microsoft Application Error Reporting" is required. The link takes me to "Report a Webpage Problem Internet Explorer 8.0 Beta Add-On" Am I really supposed to download a plug-in for IE 8 Beta to get App-V to work with SCCM? That seems weird. I need to take care of installing these on my own right? I sure would like some confirmation that I'm supposed to use a beta plugin for production App-V before I deploy it.

Can group policy do it? If so where do I find policy?

If not are there other alternatives besides manually doing it?

Error 25019: The installation program could not creat the data store.. with SQL 2005 Full

Hi, installing the 4.5 beta, the Virtual Application server setup gets most of the way through before crashing with the 25019 error, i.e. created database but no tables etc. This is with the full version of SQL 2005 and occurs with either an existing or new database. The access rights of the WA user should be sufficent - any ideas or suggestions welcome!

I’m following the “MS Desktop Optimization Pack: MS Application Virtualization, Version 4.5, Trial Guide.” My SoftGrid management server is called “SG1”; Desktop client “SG2’.

On page 21, item 16, I am told to select “Refresh Server” in the Desktop client on SG2. When I do I get the error

Easy question on AppV

All-

I am trying to implement AppV on my SCCM 2007 R2 environment but I am not familiar with packaging applications with AppV aka SoftGrid. I have everything setup the SCCM 2007 side and need to build the virtual package to upload to SCCM. Can someone explain to me which software I need to download in order to build this AppV? Can someone point me to an online resources that steps me through this process?

SoftGrid Management Console Errors 0000C800 and 0000C802

Yet another bump in the road to getting SoftGrid up and running per the Trial Guide.....

Netting it out: I am trying to connect SoftGrid Console to Softgrid Server and am getting errors (0000C800 and 0000C802 . I am trying to do Trial Guide Step #3 on Page 19 (Testing of Default Application.)

I have spent the last 2 hours or so trying various permutations (outlined and referenced below) of accounts and ports changes, and have checked out various TechNet articles about those error messages.   Bottom line: 99% of the stuff looks fine as is but I am not able to connect....   That last 1%...well ...read on... it is stuff that is pretty low down on the list and stuff that I just don't grok (yet).

Update: It is now 10 hours later and I am still no further along ... Jump to the end of the below background info to see my current situation. I think it has something to do with giving ASP.NET worker process the right permissions....but I don't know exactly how to do that.

Background:
Environment: Intel Quad 64 hardware. Server 2008 RC1 (with hyper-vBeta) host running a Server 2008RC1/HyperVBeta child vm.   On child VM (I named it {SoftGridManager), I have installed SoftGrid Manager, and all the required components (SQL Express, C++, IIS Roles, Terminal Server roles).   In a separate child VM I have an Active Directory domain controller set up. and the two VMs talke to each other fine.

Actions taken
So here I am, happy to be getting down to the short strokes of implementing this lab trial. I had just set up a separate physical server and went through the Sequencer process and successfully packaged up WordViewer2003.sprj just like it said to do in the Trial Guide. I even copied the Word Viewer 2003 folder (with the output of the packaging process) over to the content directory of the SoftGrid Manager Server on the VM called "SoftGridManager".   (see step 44 on Trial Guide page 35)

OK... now I am ready to take step 45 (page 36):
"Add the new application to Microsoft System Center aPplication virtualization Management Console following the instructions provided with the pre-sequenced application. "   Ok,... so I skip back to page Trial Guide page 19 ("Testing the Default Application") and follow Steps 1 (Administrative Tools, click SoftGrid Management Console) & 2 (in ACTIONS pane, click CONNECT TO SOFTGRID SYSTEM)

I continue onto to Step 3: "In the CONNECT TO SOFTGRID SYSTEMS dialog bbox, in the WEB SERVICE HOST NAME field, type "localhost", and click OK" .

Fine, sez I, and I type in "localhost" and leave everything else as the default. That means Port==80 and Login Credentials == Use current Windows Account

Note on my AD set-up: (I am logged in as Administrator of the SoftGridManager server child VM. I had previously included the Administrator account in the security group I created on the domain controller for administering SoftGrid. That was added under the base domain "dev.xxxx.com\Microsoft Application Virtualization" (a folder that is a sibling of dev.xxxx.com's folders called: Users, Builtin, computers, domain controllers and foriegnSecurityPrincipals)   In the folder i created 2 security groups: 1) Administrators - MS Application Virtualization and 2) SoftGrid Users; and two users: 1) MS Application Virtualization AD Browser User (probably not needed) and 2) TestUser.    In that "Administrators - MS Application Virtualization" security group I have added a few users including the Administrator from dev.xxxx.com/Users and TestUser from dev.xxxx.com/Microsoft Application Virtualization

Anyway.,,,, back to the main storyline....

So I click "OK hoping to be logged in and it sits there in hourglass mode until up comes the following error: "SoftGrid Management Console; Unexpected error occured. Please report the following error code to your system administrator. Error code 0000C800

I click OK and tell myself, maybe I got the permissionings wrong. So I check through AD and am pretty sure everything is right but I say, let me specify a windows account to log in on. So I click the radio button "Specify Windows account" and type in a series of account credentials....always getting the same C800 error in response. I entered the following account formats: DEV\Administrator; DEV.xxxx.com\Administrator; xxxx.com\Administrator. I also did the same for TestUser.

The only time when I got a different response was when I entered the account without the Domain portion: Administrator. In that case I got the Error 0000C801 . I check out that KB930470 and try the trouble shooting hints. 1) Port number is invalid (I believe this is correct based on other research - see below) . The other troubleshooting hints all require you to first connect the Management Console to the SoftGrid Server...which is exactly what I can't do!!!!!)

In any event, I figure that error C801 is a red herring and its just that I need to include the domain since it says that I need to include the domain in the instructions on the connect dialog box.

OK... so I say, "maybe I should try it with the actual host name instead of localhost.    So I try the various permutations and always get the errors I try: SoftGridManager.dev.xxxx.com (error c800) , SoftGridManager.xxxx.com (error C809), and SoftGridManager (Error C800).   I did all of these using the default "Use Current Windows Account" and default Port 80.

OK... now its time to do the troubleshooting on error 0000C800 :

1."Verify that the SoftGrid Management Console version and the SoftGrid Management Web Service version are the same." I did that and they are the same (4.5.0.606 (Beta) )

2) "Verify that the SoftGrid Management Web Service is functioning correctly. To do this, type the following command in a standard Web browser:

http://webserver_name/SoftGridManagement/Authorization.rem?wsdl

If the SoftGrid Management Web Service is functioning correctly, text that resembles the following is displayed:

System.NullreferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.runtime.Remoting. ... "

OK...no problems here

3) "Verify that the port that is specified in the Connect to SoftGrid System dialog box is the SoftGrid Management Web Service port. "
Huh? No instructions on how to do that. So I search around and find out 80 is correct. I had even tried ports 332 and port 554 which came up as a documentation bug during sequencing a packaging (Trial Guide page 29 Step 7.d.iii)
No assuming that this is the right port.

4) "Verify that the SoftGrid Management Web Service server can connect to the database. To do this, follow these steps on the SoftGrid Management Web Service server:

Locate the "%ProgramFiles%\Softricity\SoftGrid Management Service" folder.

Right-click SftMgmt.udl, and then click Properties.

Click the Connection tab.

Click Test Connection to validate the connection.

It Fails the test . It gives me the error "Microsoft DataLink Error. Test connection failed because of an error in initialzing provider. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist of access denied.

hum...... lets read on in the KB

"If the test fails, verify that the following information that is entered on the Connection tab is correct:

•	Server name < it says "SoftGridManager.dev.xxxx.com" let me try it with the other iterations . I try it with "localhost" and "SoftGridManager" both with the database defined as SoftGrid and SQLEXPRESS. No luck...same error>
•	User name <I keep it at the default "USe Windows NT Integrated security">
•	Password <same as above>
•	Database name <I change "SoftGrid" to SQLEXPRESS" while keeping the servername at the default, No Luck, same error>

Change any incorrect information, click OK, and then stop and restart the SoftGrid Management Web Service. <I cancel out and doublecheck that no changes were made.>

While I have that properties box up, I go check out the "Providers" tab. It is highlighted on "Microsoft OLE EB Provider for SQL Server.   hummm..... seems reasonable.

SO, Here is the first test that does not work.   all the info is correct but the connection test does not work AND THERE IS NO FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS IN THE KB as to what I should do with this step.. Does anyone know?   I am sort of a dead-end here...

....so I decide to continue soldiering along the KB

5." If the information that is entered on the Connection tab is correct, use the PING command to verify that the SoftGrid Management Web Service server can communicate with the database server."
No problem here. I open up a command line and ping SoftGridManager.dev.xxxx.com and I get 100% return. It says " Repy from ::1: time<1ms; Packets sent: 4 ; Packets received: 4

6. "Verify that the database service is started. For example, make sure that the MSSQLSERVER service is started."

No problems here. Well, no instructions on how to do that...so I just go to cmd and type net start. I see 2 SQl related services running:   SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)    and SQL Server VSS Writer .

7 "If you are running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and if the Microsoft .NET Framework was installed before Internet Information Services (IIS) was installed, follow these steps to register the .NET Framework with IIS:

a.	At a command prompt, move to the %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version_number folder.
b.	Type aspnet_regiis.exe /i, and then press ENTER."

Well, I am running Server 2008...but what the heck, let me give it a go....

So I cd %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ and then do a DIR looking for sub-directories.   I see v1.0.3705 , v1.1.4322 and v2.0.50727 .

so I cd v2.0.50727 and then type aspnet_regiis.exe /i

Low and behold....I get the following error message:

"The error indicates that IIS is not instaled on the machine. Please install IIS before using this tool. Finished installing ASP.NET "

Wah?!!!! ... I installed IIS days ago and even checked that it had ASP.NET per Steps 2 & 3 on Trial Guide page 11.   I look back at my notebook and notice that I made the following penciled remark regarding the step by step instructions in Step 3 for checking if ASP.NET has been installed:   "Not exactly the same wording on Server 2008... but ASP shows."

Hum...sez I... I guess I'll need to doublecheck the ASP.NET through server Administrative Tools\IIS Manager. But first...what is that last line the command returned: "Finished installing ASP.NET" . hummm...past tense....maybe it cleaned it up for me.   so I ran the command again and got the same error message verbatim.   Ah well... lets go and check out the ASP.NET again per the instructions on Page 11 of the Trial guide.

So I make sure that I am on the SoftGridServer VM and I click Start\Administrative Tools\IIS Manager     (I see that I also have IIS 6.0 Manager...but I'll look at that later)

In the lef t pane I doubleclick and then expand SOFTGRIDMANAGER (SOFTGRIDMANAGER\Administrator) . As I mouse over it, it shows me that it is http://localhost/ .

In the middle plane, the first thing that shows is the ASP.NET area.   Yup, its there....lets click into some of the icons and see if I can see anything unusual

...In the Session State icon, the "Session State Mode Settings" comes up with the radio button on "In Process".     The SQL Server connection string is in there (data source=localhost;IntegratedSecurity=SSPI) but that string is grayed out and the radio button is not on (because it is on "In process" "    Not sure if this all means anything

moving on.... I go down to the IIS Area...

I see the icon for Worker Processes and click on it.   There is nothing in there ...not sure if this is significant or not

well....nothing that grabs my attention... before I give up this line of research,,, lets see what I can see via the Server Manager/ add roles dialog.....

I scroll down to Web Server (IIS) and I see: System Services: 4 running, 1 stopped.

Humm... I wonder what is stopped....lets click on that link.

I see:

ASP.NET State Service     aspnet_state    stopped     manual      no

hummm

I highlight that service and the description says " Provides upport for out-of-process session states for ASP.NET. If this service is stopped, out of process requests will not be processed."

humm...not sure if that is exactly my problem, but what the heck, lets change the prferences to start/enabled

So I set start up to be Automatic and started the service.   I confirmed that the current state is running.

Feeling hopeful, I go back to the cmd line and retype aspnet_regiis.exe /i.

DAMN! Same #@%! error.

"The error indicates that IIS is not instaled on the machine. Please install IIS before using this tool. Finished installing ASP.NET "

Oh well...lets check out Server Manager/Roles/WebServer/Add Role Services....

Nothing really interesting here.   The only stuff that is left uninstalled are things that you would not think make would make a (positive difference) in this situaiton: (custom logging, ODBC Logging, Digest authentication, IIS Client Certificate mapping authentication URL authorization, IP and Domain restrictions, Dynamic Content compression, Management Service, FTP Publishing Service)

No dice here....lets go check out IIS 6 Compatibility stuff... I remember I had trouble installing SoftGrid in the first place until I was told through TechNet that i had to enable IIS 6 compatibility mode

So I start/Administrative tools/IIS6 Manager ..highlight the one thing that is in the left pane ( Internet Information Services) and the right pane just says "There are no items to show in this view

Oy... Another Dead end

So lets turn back to the KB and keep on keeping on.....

8. "Verify that the ASP.NET worker process account has Read permissions for the SftMgmt.udl file and for the SftReporting.udl file. The following table lists the ASP.NET worker process account names for various scenarios.

<Well.... I am using Server 2008... nothing in here tells me what to look for. I guess I will keep my eyes open and generally look in the direction of Server 2003.

To verify the permissions for the ASP.NET worker process account, follow these steps on the SoftGrid Management Web Service server:

Locate the "%ProgramFiles%\Softricity\SoftGrid Management Service" folder.
<OK, this is a little different the actual path in 2008 is: ~ Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SoftGrid\Microsoft System Center virtual Application Server\ SoftGrid Management Service :

Right-click SftMgmt.udl, and then click Properties. <ok>

Click the Security tab. <righty-o>

Add the appropriate ASP.NET worker process account, and then assign Read permissions to the account.

WHAAAAA?!!!

Ok, first all the Groups/Users that already are in there have right enabled. The names are: ISUER, SYSTEM, Local Service, Network Service, Administrators (SoftGridManager\Administrators)
(IIS_IUSERS (SoftGridManager\IIS_IUSERS)

No mention of :
Member Server , ASP.NET or account (SOFTGRIDMANAGER\ASPNET)

but there is something for domain controllers.... and a separate one for Enterprise Domain Controllers.....lets add those...

However

there is already NETWORK SERVICE and it already has READ enabled.
So no need to re-add that.,...

OK... I'm game... I'll try adding... so I click "Add"....
Hit Advance in order to see all possible names and up comes the Windows security box asking me to authenticate to the AD Domain Controller.... I log in with the Administrator account and am let in.

I then click "Find now" and a listing of all known objects are in there....but nothing about ASPNET account or member server.

There is, however, a few objects about domain controls... I'll add Domain controler and Enterprise Domain Controller. I'll even add Network

I'll try to manually type in ASPNET and SOFTGRIDMANAGER\ASP.NET but no luck there

Click OK.

Locate the "%programfiles%\Softricity\SoftGrid Reporting Service" folder.

Right-click SftReporting.udl, and then click Properties.

<Can't find any SFTReporting.udl or even anything that refers to a SoftGrid Reporting service

Click the Security tab.

Add the appropriate ASP.NET worker process account, and then assign Read permissions to the account.

Click OK.

SO Here is another Dead-end...Can't figure out how to add anything that talks about ASP to the SFTMGMT.udl

OK... so on to Step 9. I have high hopes for Step 9 since it is my last chance. Also it was refered to in this Technet posting

Well... I'm about to give up :-(

googling around I came up with two possibilities for permissioning

One was to go through Administration Tools/IIS/SOFTGRIDMANAGER\Default Web Site\SoftGridManagement\bin\permissions and make sure everything has read privs.

Did that

The other way was to go to %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework \v2.x.x. and run aspnet_regiis.exe -ga <user>

I am a bit confused which <user> to put there.

I did:
aspnet_regiis.exe -ga Administrator
aspnet_regiis.exe -ga System

The program ran and said that it gave permissions.

I tried to connect from management console to Softgrid and still got C800 error.

Grasping at straws... I went into SoftGrid Manager and clicked "Reset SoftGrid Administrators"

Since there were no servernames in the pull down boxes , I tried localhost and SoftGridManager using the Administrator's credentials.   No luck.

Somehow I got to the screen where it is supposed to show the current SoftGrid administrator groups. and there is nothing in the list. I click add and see tons of objects from AD.   I click on the first thing "Administrators - MS Application Virtualization"   and click OK   ,, when I hit Finish, I get....ERROR 0000C800 !!!!

I started this on Saturday morning at 8AM.   It is now Saturday night at 9:30pm.   I did not go out all day. 1 hour for dinner.

What am I missing? (except a life)

Does SoftGrid create an inaccessible disk drive?

I've installed a beta version of Microsoft SoftGrid App Virtualization from corpnet - no idea which version. Now, I've got a funky drive showing up in "My Computer", Q:\. I can't open the drive (getting access denied), and I can't set ACL's on the drive. The only way I traced it back to you guys was by asking on ntfstalk, getting an internal tool to print out disk information (DiskDiag.exe), then finding someone in Core File Services who connected the string "SftVol" with Softricity.

Can you guys confirm that your software does create this inaccessible hard drive? Here's the info from DiskDiag that suggested it might be related to MS SoftGrid:

        A: = \Device\Floppy0 [Removable]
        C: = \Device\HarddiskVolume2 [Fixed]
        D: = \Device\CdRom0 [CDRom]
        Q: = \Device\SftVol [Fixed]            <---------- No hardware corresponds w/ this device.

If this is indeed from your app, is it possible you could work with either Core File Services, the Shell team, and/or at least the DiskDiag people to do a slightly better job reporting these devices? Making a new disk type returned by Win32's GetDriveType() (like DRIVE_VIRTUALIZED or whatever) would be a good start.

SoftGrid Application server Service does not start

All,

I recently installed SoftGrid 4.5 for testing, the install went well without any problems, however, the service for the server wil not start. I've been having trouble getting my 4.5 client to connect with the 4.5 server and I'm am certain that the issue is do ti the service not running.

I recieve this error

"Service cannot start..refer to service-specific error code 268480357"

Can anyone help?

Hi,

I am having problems adding groups to my applications via the 'Access Permissions' tab. When I click 'Add...' I get an message dialog stating 'An operations error occured.'.

When I click OK the 'Add/Edit User Group' dialog appears but I am unable to access the domain groups. The following is from the sftmmc.log file

Error 0000C801 in Console - on server 2008

Hi all, I have an issue running the Softgrid Managment Console

My platform is:

Server 2008 x86 Standard

SCAV management server 4.5.0.606

SQL 2005 Express installed locally

The server happens (in this PoC) to also be a DC

The installation of the management server worked (well, eventually), however when I run the Softgrid Management Console and try to 'Connect to SoftGrid System' I get the following error:

Unable to log into the SoftGrid System

Invalid user name or password

Error code: 0000C801

I am running the console on the computer that is the management server, and the error occurs both if I use 'the current windows account' or if I specify an account.

The user I'm logged in as is a member the admin group I configured during setup (also happens to be a domain admin as it's just a test environment)

Firewall on the 2008 server is currently disabled.

Now of course I think the issue is related to IIS 7, but I have checked out a bunch of settings and can't seem to find the cause.

I’ve have done the following:

· Installed some of the IIS6 compatibility stuff (had to to even get the softgrid installation to work)

o IIS 7 management scripts and tools

o IIS 6 Metabase compatibility

o IIS 6 Management Console

· Granted NetworkService and the machine$ account read access to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SoftGrid\Microsoft System Center Virtual Application Server\SoftGrid Management Service” (as the ‘Classic .NET AppPool’ is running as NetworkService).

· I have also given NetworkService full control to:

· C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files

· %SystemRoot%\Temp

· Granted NetworkService Local Launch and Local Activation rights on both ‘IIS admin’ and ‘IIS W3 control’ DCOM items

· Checked out auth options in IIS7 and things look ok (anonymous and forms are disabled. ASP.NET impersonation is enabled (authenticated user).

This is written to the IIS log when a connection is attempted with the softgrid console:

I tried everything, windows firewall is off on all the servers and i tried re-installing the virtual application client and the server side multiple times and tried re-installing the application server side and SQL a few times. and i still get the same error. i also uninstall symantec because i thought it might have been blocking the connection.

(Environment: Server 2008 running inside a Hyper-V VM. IIS enabled, SQLExpress installed succesfully.)

On this same server I attempt to install SoftGrid 4.5 Manager using the installer program. I get all the way through it but it bombs at the end of the installation.

It returns: "Error 25120. The installation program was unable to create the required IIS Virtual Directory"

I've tried a couple of things in an effort to get it working.

1) I enabled sharing on the content folder per Step 16 (page 15) of the SoftGrid 4.5 Trial Guide.

Tried to re-install but got the same error.

2) I made sure that Network Service has permissions to Launch by doing the following:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.

2. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand DCOM Config.

3. Right-click IIS W3 Control, and then click Properties.

4. Click the Security tab.

5. Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Edit.

6. Click Add.

7. In the Enter the object names to select box, type NETWORK SERVICE , and then click OK.

8. Click NETWORK SERVICE, and then click to select the Local Activation check box in the Allow column.

9. Click OK two times.

Srill no luck, Then I went nuts....

I did the above for just about every group user I could think of as possibly related...Including Local and System, SoftGrid Users... eta l

Still no luck.

Then I went after inetpub. I shared that directory with all the people mentioned above.

Still the same err: Error 25120 Te Installation program was unable to create the required IIS virtual directory.

As that last step was essentially grasping at straws.... I am at a dead end here. Just going to reboot the VM and see if that magically does anything.

Any other ideas?

I tried calling into MS paid support but noone could help me because this is a beta product.

App-V not loading Sequenced applications

I am struggling to get App-V to work, on my Desktop I have the Client installs, this client will download and load the Default application

Hi all,

there seems to be a mismatch between the wmi namespaces used by microsoft application virtualization rc and the current beta release of configuration manager 2007 r2. Sccm seems to target the root\microsoft\softgrid\client whereas the application virtualization rc uses root\microsoft\appvirt\client.

Is there any fix for this, other than using an older version of the rc of ms app virtualization, or waiting for a new release of config manager 2007 r2?

0x8004100e error when installing or streaming application

When installing or streaming a Microsoft virtual application get the following error

ExecuteProgram failed with a non-recoverable error(0x8004100e)

which in turn shows in the Virtualapp.log as looking for a namespace that doesn't exist

Failed to open the WMI namespace [root\microsoft\softgrid\client]. Error (0x8004100e)

When you install the MS Virtual client it compiles to root\microsoft\Appvirt\client

We are on SCCM R2 (Version 4.00.6086.1000) & MAV 4.5 RC & Microsoft System Center Application Virtualization Streaming Server Version 4.5.0.1305 (1168)"

Had a look at another post with the same problem and it says wait for the release.

Has anybody conme across these problems before.

Script in OSD file

I sequenced Notepad++ but the function "Edit with Notepad++" is not available when I do a right clic on a file. Then I want to add it by script in the OSD file.
I want to make an action before the launch of this application. I added this to my OSD file :

First of all, im installing Softgrid server 4.5 in a virtual lab environment based in msde 2000a. Does anyone already really installed this with sucess?

What type of parameters do you supply in the msde instalattion besides the sapwd= ?

What SQL version do you consider to be the most compatible with SG 4.5?

I suspect this combination does not work. Hopefully someone from MS might indicate if this is a bug or "feature".

4.5RC1 (4.5.0.1305) in use.

Sequence simple app (Reverse DNS)

enable compression of the SFT.

Publish via SCCM for HTTP Streaming

Advertisement runs fine.

User attempts to launch the virtual app, client error 0A-00000163

Resequence same app with no compression of the SFT

Publish same way.

App runs fine.

I did not attempt other publishing methods on the compressed file, so I don't know if this is specific to HTTP streaming or not.

Where is the Virtualisation Client??

Is there some documentation on how to implement the new features, particularly contexting, also what are the limitations when using these features? I have had both Bloomberg and Reuters Office addins running, but wanted to find out all of the options.

May I just say from what I have seen so far MS Application Virtualization is head and shoulders above the competition. Keep up the good work.

Sequencing apps that MUST reboot...

I am trying to sequence an app, using 4.5, and the app MUST reboot the machine to finalize the install and apply registry settings...I've read the best practice guides and nothing in them works in this case. The app is Crystal Reports XIR2 from Business Objects. Here's a quote from a post on their forums:

"I looked at the log file and, apparently, crystal wants to install some drivers in c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\...\stdnames.gpd and thinks that these are in use. Therefore, they need be replaced only at the next startup."

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work, or does this app just go into the 'Can't be done' pile?...

Someone has to have had an app that HAS to reboot and been able to sequence it...(We are a VMWare shop, and the competition ThinApp by VMWare works just fine on this app...)

Hello,

I have a strange issue in which I have tried almost everything I know off but I don't seem to be solving the problem. I will start at the beginning so to give all necessary information:

Sequencing with the latest APP-V 4.5 RC and running against the latest client. We have an environment of 2003 R2 standard terminal server, Citrix 4.5 and PowerFuse 2008.
Sequenced the following applications:

DDE Call
Profile Wizard
Adobe Flash
Adobe ShockWave
Office 2007 Enterprise (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Picture Manager and Outlook)
Office Visio 2007 Professional
Office Project 2007 Standard

I have sequenced these applications many times before with the older version of Office (XP and 2003) and never run into this problem before. Everything works with 4.5 except for one small tiny problem.

We are placing the application data on a personal profile drive mapping Z:\Application Data\Microsoft\.... and here something goes wrong when I go within the sequenced application to the z:\application data\microsoft directory I cannot see anything after the microsoft directory. Whereas with all other sequences and the older office sequence we would see all sub directories underneath. The problem is not that people need to see these things only Word seems to have a problem saving it's normal.dotm file. Although outlook doesn't seem to save it's dotm file in the correct location only Word.

Perhaps anyone has seen this issue and could know what the problem is? I would very much appreciate any kind of help.

Sequencing Adobe Reader with 4.5RC1

Report of error that occurrs while using the App-V Sequencer.

Windows XP3 with SP3 installed.

Sequencer 4.5.0.1305

Have seen same issue with both Adobe Reader 8 and 9 (have not tried other versions).

Start the sequencer, File|New.

Get to monitoring stage, launch the Adobe installer.

Installer crashes fairly quickly with a 0xC0000005.

Stopping the sequencer and running the installer does not demonstrate this crash.

MIgrating office customizations from local install to virtual version

We are evaluating the prospect of giving our users a fully virtual office suite. However one of the stumbling blocks is how do we move our users existing customizations (templates, signatures, etc..) from their local computers, into the virtual office, so that the transition is 'transparent' to them..or as close to it as possible?

I am trying to sequence applications using App-V 4.5 RTM. But I am facing windows installer. Need help in this regard.

I am getting the below error.

Error 1719.The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

As soon as I click begin monitoring, I am getting the above error.

Please suggest if there is work around.

4.5 Sequencer does't like Aobe Reader 8...

So my client wants some of their applications sequenced in 4.5. So I start with a simple one. Adobe Reader 8.

I start with the AdbeRdr810_en_US.exe.

It errors out right off the bat with "NOSSO(R) Has Stopped Working" Error

I then go to install with a transform that uses the extracted .MSI for adobe reader. It gets almost all the way to the end of the install and then errors out with

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly. "Microsoft.VCR80.CRT, Version="8.0.50727.163", type="win32", publickeytoken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b", processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to help and support.

These errors only happen when the 4.5 sequencer is running. If I stop the sequencer, then installing from either option works. I'm sequencing on Vista. I haven't tried this on XP yet.

Has anyone else seen this and figured out a work around?

I was intrigued with the "Micro Branch Scenario" scenario that I read about in the SG 4.5 help file. However, I've been unable to find any additional information about it. Here's what is reported about the Micro Branch Scenario:

This scenario is ideal for environments where you need to deploy applications to Clients on workstations in small branch offices where server-class machines are not available to host Application Virtualization Management or Streaming Servers. This scenario was designed to provide the following solutions:
•   Deliver virtual applications to small branch offices that lack server-class machines
•   Maintain a consistent virtual application distribution practice between all offices
•   Deliver virtual applications through Load from File delivery
•   Deploy virtual applications to a single device that can then act as a file server
•   Distribute applications from the file server through unattended operation (script automation)

Please tell me that this scenario still is a supported one? And if so, could someone tell me more about it.
