Appv Client 4.5 Application Fails in Vista
I recently upgraded Appv Client Version 4.2.1.21 to version 4.5.1.15580.
The server is on 4.1.1.302 (RTM)
When I open a SoftGrid Default Application, it opens up fine.
But when I close it or click on "ok" it brings up a
Windows message that says “DefaultApp.exe has stopped working”.Under "View Problem Details" It says,
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: DefaultApp.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 3d00e497
Fault Module Name: btprof32.dll_unloaded

It happens to all applications. Everything works fine in XP but not
in Vista. I can work on all of the applications but when I try to close it,
it spits out the error message.Note: While I am upgrading clients from 4.2 to 4.5, I didn't made any changes to Appv server or packages.

I figured out what the problem was. In the installation folder, there is one more item called Dw20shared.msi which is for “Microsoft Application Error Reporting”. When I made the installation package for App-V, I didn’t include the Dw20shared.msi. After installing it, everything works fine now.
Thanks for all your help.

- Hi,
How did you upgrade the Client - uninstalled 4.2 and then installed 4.5, or did you just installed 4.5 over the 4.2 client?
It sounds s little bit like if the client could not write the usrvol.pkg into UserDataDirectory: Could you verifiy in the Registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SoftGrid\4.5\Client\Configuration) what value UserDataDirectroy has and if it is the same like for the "old" 4.2 installation (an check if the user has write permission there).
Also, is there any helpfull in the App-V Client Log or Event Log?
Falko Falko,
I did 4.5 client upgrade on top of 4.2 client.UserDataDirectory shows %APPDATA%. It is same as the old 4.2 installation. On Vista it does require a write permission.
Somehow Event Log stopped recording the log after the upgrade.

Sam- Interesting, the error refers to Bluetooth -related DLL.. Have you tried upgrading BT drivers on those Vista machines?
