PC Speaker Beeping for App-V clients

Hi,

I have an issue with several client machines related to sound.

On each of these three machines, when using any application via App-V, anything that would cause an error sound to be produced (clicking outside of an active error message window, for example) is causing the PC speaker to beep on the client side. This is happening despite any option to allow sound forwarding from the server to the client being disabled. The actual sound itself will not play on the client machine, just a PC speaker beep.

The clients are running Windows Vista with all service packs and updates in place. The servers are Windows Server 2008 with all updates in place. I have been able to replicate this issue using all of the basic MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) as well as some third party applications.

All,

I'm trying to confgure a client (4.5 SP1) to use Q: as virtual drive but it keeps installing as I: (driveletter q:; currentdriveletter i:).
Some background info:
The fist time we installed the client, the Q: drive was in use as a network drive. After we removed the network mapping, we uninstalled/installed the app-v client, but it keeps using I:... I can't see that the Q:-drive is in use, so any clue what's going on here and how I can force the Q: drive?
Hacking the registry and forcing the "curentdriveletter" entry doens't seem to do the trick.

Virtual app (Adobe Reader 9) works on XP but not on Windows 7

Did this happen to anyone else? I've sequenced Adobe Rearder 9 with 4.5 Sequencer and it works fine on XPs but not on Win 7 machines. When I deploy the app via SCCM, it installs fine but I can't find the Adobe icon anywhere. Does it mean that I have to resequence the app with 4.5 SP1 Sequencer in order for it to work on Win 7 machines?

Can I write to the Q drive on Application Launch?

Hello, I want to copy a file into a particular folder on my Q drive when an application is launched. I have modified my osd file to run a script with admin privileges to copy the file I need but I get access denied messages. The copy command I use is as follows:

copy /Y "\\users\applications\EndNoteX2\Styles\Harvard.ens" "Q:\endnote.002\EndNote_R2\Styles\Harvard.ens"

Is it possible to copy files into the Q drive on launch?

Interaction between locally installed Firefox and virtualized Firefox

Hi,
I've just virtualized an old version of Firefox to support a legacy application. It's working fine by itself, but I noticed a strange behaviour on client who have another version of Firefox locally installed.
For instance, on my laptop I have Firefox 3.5 locally installed and the virtualized Firefox 2. I start Firefox 3.5 and leave it open, then I click on the shortcut of Firefox 2 published via App-V and instead of opening Firefox 2, it opens another windows of Firefox 3.5.
The same thing is true if I first open the virtualized Firefox 2: if I try to open the locally installed Firefox 3.5, another window of Firefox 2 opens instead.

Is there anything I can do to have the option to open an instance of the locally installed Firefox 3.5 side by side with an instance of virtualized Firefox 2?

APP-V Versions

Dear,

We are currently running a proof of concept with APP-V through our MDOP agreement. We integrate with SCCM 2007 R2 SP1.
As a basis we started with "4.5 cummulative Update 1" from MDOP 2009.
This week Microsoft launched MDOP 2009 R2 that contains "4.5 SP1".

Can anyone describe the differences between both (in detail please).
What's the procedure to follow to eventually move from "4.5 cummulative Update 1" to "4.5 SP1" (both sequencer including already created virtual apps and the client).

App-V 4.5 and GPO Preferences - Does it work?

Hello,

We are using App-V 4.5 in our TS-enviroment and are also using GPO Preferences (CSE). We are having some trouble now though, we have setup a GPO Preference that is supposed to remove a reg-value under HKCU-hive. This reg-value is not removed in the virtual register though.

I've bing'ed the net and only article I found with relevance was:

And that post does not mention GPO Preferences.

Hello,

When I start a App-V application I get the following error in my application event log:

Event ID: 3128
Description:

Invalid package configuration. Unable to start trickle stream (rc 18306C04-00001802).

The application works fine but every time I get this error in the eventlog. When I search the Internet I get no results on this error, does someone have any idea?
My client version is 4.5.0.1485

I want to migrate my users from Softgrid Server with 4.x client to SCCM infrastructure running App-V 4.5 SP1. I have already migrated and upgrade all the applications and I am running them side by side since SCCM doesn't take over until the client are on 4.5. I am concerned about users losing their customizations and setting in the virtual applications they are running. Can anyone advice me on a way to perserve the user's settings in their virtual applications when I make the switch from Softgrid 4.x to App-V 4.5 SP1 and move them from using a Softgrid server to using SCCM to manage and stream virtual applications.

Hi I've integrated App-V with our SCCM site and we used it to rollout App-V 4.5 client last year. Since App-V 4.5 SP1 has been released, I'm wondering what is the best way to upgrade the 4.5 SP1 on to of App-v 4.5? Should I just place the new package in the same location as the old client and update the DP?

"The Directory Name is invalid" when launching application on Terminal Server

I have an issue with an application that a number of users are running on a Windows 2008 Terminal Server. When attempting to launch the application they are receiving this error:

The Application Virutalization Client could not launch Delegation and Configuration 8.10.0.96
The directory name is invalid
Error code: 45224F4-1B40212C-000000010B (may not have the right number of zeroes)

The application is the NetIQ DRA Client (Version 8.10). The only way I can seem to clear the error is to restart the AppV client on the terminal server. The next time that I launch the application, I receive and error message about the disk volume and package corruption. Launch again and the application is fine.

I don't know for sure but I wonder if this is happening when a user is kicked off the terminal server while the application is up and running?

There are a couple of lines in the OSD file that I wondered if they would make any difference:

Working directory %SFT_MNT%\DRA.810\DRA\ <- Remove line
Terminate Children FALSE <- Change to TRUE

Any ideas?

I am looking for an easy way for the support staff to remove and refresh the applications on users workstations. I also use this in our logon script when needed. I am having luck with the SFTMIME command options but in some cases this gets a bit tedious. Right now I am calling two commands in batch to remove user and global information: SFTMIME CLEAR and SFTMIME DELETE. At least this is my understanding of how to acomplish this.

The problem is, there may be multilple "Applications" for one package that I need to do if I am to refresh. I have one app with more than 20 shortcuts (Apps) that need to be cleared. Here is an example of a small one:

I am receiving the following error when trying to refresh the publishing server from an App-V 4.5 SP1 client.

} (rc 19D0810A-10000005).

(Of course the names have been changed to protect the innocent).

This only happens when the client is connected via Cisco VPN. I have verified connectivity to the app-v server as suggested in one of the KB articles with : telnet appv-server.contoso.com 554 and responds with:

I have checked using kerbtray and the client does have a SoftGrid/appv-server.contoso.com ticket.

Problem deploying apps with AppV 4.5

Hi,

I have been sequencing apps with 4.5.2 sequencer and hosting them on 4.5.2 server. The apps in question are firefox and opera, they seem to cache to the machines fine, all the icons appear where they should etc. etc. When I try to run the app with appv client 4.5.1 I receive the following error.

I have looked all over for this and found some suggestions on the AppV team blog that it could be a memory pooling problem, I tried implementing the fix for this but found it made no difference. I have sequenced over and over again the apps but don't seem to be able to get either of them to work.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to proceed with this?

Can't open PDFs in virtual Reader; "Virtual Application Launcher"

I have Adobe Acrobat 9, Adobe Reader 9, and Adobe Reader 9 as a virtual application. I was just trying to double-click a PDF file from Explorer (which till recently has been working fine), when I got the error:

"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

I checked in the Default Programs control panel and found that PDFs have been associated with something called the "Virtual Application Launcher" (the two other options it lists are Acrobat 9 and Reader 9). I tried to Google this term for more information but couldn't find much.

Things work fine, but what was going on? How do I fix this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have installed succesfully APP-V 4.5 SP1 (MDOP 2009 R2) virtual environment :

- Application Virtualization Mgt Server (In a Hyper-V Windows 2008 R2 Virtual machine including Windows 2008 / SQL 2008)
- Application Virtualization Client ( In a Windows 7 Virtual PC machine including Windows 7 Enterprise OS)
- Application Virtualization Sequencer (In a Windows 7 Virtual PC machine including Windows Vista)

I have succesfully build two Acrobat Reader virtual application packages (9.2 FR edition and 8.0 EN edition) via application virtualization sequencer and publish them via Application Virtualization Manager Server Console

From my Windows 7 WVPC machine I'm able to load and execute each of Acrobat Reader corresponding packages but one by one - Impossible to execute Acrobat Reader 9.2 FR and Acrobat Reader 8.0 EN simultaneously.

No specific messages or errors in sftlog.txt - The value of SYSGUARDFILE argument in each of corresponding OSD files is not the same.

Any idea why I'm not able to execute differents versions of Acrobat Reader virtual applications althought there are supposed to have an isolated executing environment ?

I've got a client that has run into an error while deploying Microsoft Office 2007 using SCCM 2007 R2 and App-v 4.5 (MDOP 2009 R2). Information below:
Sequencing machine: XP SP3 vanilla install. Windows Installer 4.5 - all App-V sequencing pre-requisits installed. Virtual Machine on VMWare ESX 3.5. Installation Dir for Office 2007: Q:\MSOFFICE.07\Office\
Client Machine: XP SP3 with Office 2003 installed on workstation image.
SCCM 2007 SP1 R2 Server - Distribution Point.

Office 2007 did not give any issues, errors, or anything other than a success while sequencing the application. All applications were launched to increase block 1 load time (except outlook, image viewer, and publisher) without any incident. Both Server streaming and local copy methods were used (different packages and advertisements) to test methods. While attempting to launch any of the office applications this error code kept popping up: error code: 45242F4-0EC05E0C-0000003C.

Other applications such as Word 2003 Viewer and Access 97 were successfully sequenced and packaged and advertised to clients without error as well and they launched.

We've sequenced office 2007 2 times without any issues but the when the package and advertisement are deployed to the client, the apps blow up for no reason. All sequenced application osd files point to defaults. And client error codes include 3001.

Win7 - Appv 4.5 - SCCM SP2

All,
So I'm using SCCM2007 SP2 to deploy appv packages. Packages were sequenced with the 4.5 sequencer. All packages are running fine on XP and Vista. We are now testing with Win7 clients and the SP1 appv client.
I notice that I'm not getting all virtual apps in my start menu. Some are published, some aren't (all packages have no OS specified in the OSD so I guess they should run on any platform?). Do I need to resequence apps with the 4.5 SP1 sequencer?

I created a virtual package with sequencer, copied it on SCCM server, created a virtual package and an advertisement. (download content from DP option selected).

I look in manifest file and package version GUID in sequencer, it is the same...

Do you see where it comes from ? SCCM seems to distribute package correctly, but fails arrived on appv client. If someone have an idea, thanks in advance.

Error "Security context not allowed" when starting App-V application as RemoteApp

I tried to publish App-V applications as RemoteApps on our Windows Server 2008 SP2 terminal servers.

I followed the "Application Virtualization 4.5 for Terminal Services" whitepaper when creating the RemoteApps.
When users try to start this RemoteApps from the RemoteDesktop Website starting the RemoteApps stops with an error
"Application Virtualization Client could not be started. The security context is not allowed. Error code 4514197-0C601B33-000006D5."

At same time the following error is logged on the terminal server:

I was unable to find any informations to this error code.
Does anyone know something about the cause of this problem?

Slow launch of applications

I've sequenced and testet some applications, but the launching is extremly slow.

When I launch a package that is about 500MB it uses about 10 miniutes to stream.

Standard App-V 4.5 setup and installed on a new 2008 server.

The clients are 4.5 on Windows 2003 with latest SP.

If I use RTSP (554) it streams in about 5 seconds.
If I use RTSPS (322) it strems in about 10-15 minutes.

Is there a way yo speed up the streaming of new apps, when the app finally is streamed the lanuch is fast.

Copying the project from the app-v server to the 2003 server manually is fast.

JRE 1.6 installed local - JRE1.4.2 Virtualized with app. issues

I have JRE 1.4.2 virtualized with an app. Have JRE1.6 installed localling on the workstation. When I run the virtualized app it finds JRE 1.6 outside the bubble and uses it which causes inssues. Is there a way to stop the Virtualized apps for seeing the JRE 1.6 installed on the workstation?

With new APPV versions, I'm asking if it possible, with a virtual app, to interact with other apps installed physically on computer. For example, If I got JRE 1.6 installed on my computer, and if I run a virtual app using JRE 1.6, appv will have possibility to use JRE ? Or I will need to virtualize JRE also ? Or I will need to create a virtual bubble containing JRE AND my app using JRE ?

App-v 4.5 sp1 error

I am streaming Virtual Applications from an App-V server (have been since SoftGrid 4.1)

Testing the SP1 update, I find that the 4.5 pre-SP1 client connects without a problem, but the SP1 clients produce an 0E-00002008 error (45242F4-0FA10B0E-00002008.) The only documentation on this is at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=931579 which would seem to indicate a problem with drive letter changes. Yes we do change the drive letters, (we already use Q for something else.) But after 5 restarts the 4.5 sp1 client refuses to connect to the 4.5 sp1 Server.

What appears to be happening is that the virtual drive is being created as Q regardless of what is set in the registry (Which is V by the way.) Anyone have any tips on this?

When I upgraded from App-V 4.2 to 4.5 I had to convert each application on my managmenet server. Now I am getting ready to upgrade from 4.5 to 4.5 SP1 with the hopes that I will not have to touch each app to make it available for Windows 7 systems. Does anyone know if the the SP1 upgrade will do anything to help this process?

What is very strange is that it seems that the client cannot load applications from a subfolder of the root content. Indeed the default app is working but not the applications on the subfolders. When I use filemon.exe, I can see that the client cannot find the sft file on the root content (the client does not search on the subfolder)

The same packages work on TS client but not on XP client.

Why ?

Remote Desktop Refresh

Is there any way to perform a remote desktop refresh for a SG Client? I was under the assumption that you could remotely connect to another SoftGrid PC using the Client Management utility and Right-Click/Refresh Server under Desktop Configuration Servers. (We're using ver. 4.2)

Also -- does anyone know how to remotely refresh the user's desktop via a command line? I'm assuming using SFTMIME.EXE or SFTTRAY.EXE?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

I keep on getting an error when I install Appv 4.5 for Terminal Services Client on a Windows 2008 TS box. The error I am getting is that firstly the Visual C++ 2005 SP! update fails and then I get the prerequisite not installed error of error:25010. I can only imagine it has to do with the Visual C++ not being able to install. I notice that Visual C++ does not like Windows 2008, so I tried installing Visual C++ 2008 to see if it will remedy the problem. Sadly it doesn't.

Do any of you have some idea's?
