QuestionApp-V crashes excel 2007 @ W2K8

    Hello,

I'm having some problem with my sequenced applications which I'm deploying to 2K8'-servers and our users acces them through citrix. This happens with multiple packages on our 2K8 servers but on our 2K3 I cant reproduce it.

    How our servers are setup:
Windows Server 2008 SP2 with latest patches
Office 2007 SP2 installed nativevly, also with latest patches.
    App-V client 4.5.
Apps are deployed via SCCM and "download and run". No streaming.

    Economy-program:
The program is sequenced according to best-practice. Installed on Q: and so on, the sequencer enviroment has Office 2007 installed native.. The application works fine when the users run it. From the application the user can export reports to excel and this works fine. The excel crash appers when/if the user closes all the books in excel and then presses the Office-button in the upper right. The menu hang and excel goes to "not responding" mode. This happens everytime.

We have the exact same problem with another economy-program. That program is actually a excel-snapin, and it works fine as long as the user does not close all the books and afterwards presses the office-button.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

    Hello,

    Any difference in AV-settings?
Have you tried resequencing it on Win2k8?
Have you used procmon to see if there is any odd activity when the crash happens?

    Hello,

Atm AV-software is not installed at all at theese servers, neither is it on sequencer-machine.

I resequenced it today and sadly it did not help.

Have not yet used procmon to monitor for odd behaviors, will try try that tomorrow.

Has someone else seen anything like this?

I'm starting to see it more and more, on our 2K8 TS-servers with App-V excel is very dodgy when it is launched from a bubble.

If I click around in the ribbon-menus it suddenly hangs and spike 100& CPU..

Have you tried to use LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED -flag in the OSD file(s)?

    Helllo,

I tried "LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED" both false and true but no change.

We are seeing this on all our 2k8 X86 production servers atm... Its very annoying.

    Hello,

It would be very interesting to see that procmon log, as obviously its doing something when the CPU-spikes.

    Hello,

Sure I can upload procmon-log tomorrow if I remember it.

I currently have a case on this at microsoft, they have seen this at other customers also.

I've givven them a couple of dumps that they are investigating.

    @Jonas

You did not specify regarding DSC.  Is "Economy Program" being deployed as a virtual application Dynamic Suited with a virtual Office app, or did you do this as two independent applications?

From what you have posted, it sounds like you should be using DSC to solve your issue.  The trick will be in editing the OSDs to always launch the suited virtual environment.

    Hello Tim,

"Economy program" is delpoyed as a virtual application. Office is installed natively (ie not virtualized) on all servers.

    Hi Jonas,

i have exactly the same config here with the same problem. If i start the native installed Excel 2007 on the Server it works fine but when any "APP-V App" calls the natve installed Excel it crashs after a few clicks, especially when i click something on the ribbon menu. Interesting thing is when i do this on the console session it works. So the problem occurs only when i start a ICA or RDP Session.

    Did you found any solution?

    Hi Andre,

Sad to say that we have no solution for this yet. We have an open case with microsoft and are on 3rd escalation engineer who is lookin into it. He has not been able to reproduce the issue in his lab-enviroment yet though.

The annoying thing is that I exported one of our VM's where we have the problem and was going to send it over to him, however before I sent it i tried it out in vmware player and was not able to reproduce the error!

I'm 90% sure that I've been able to reproduce the problem in console-session but atm I'm only able to reproduce it via RDP or ICA.
