Power Query Error Message is not helpful, when attempting to connect to a PostgreSQL database

    General discussion

  • Cheers,

I just wanted to share the observation that the error message Power Query pushes out, when a connection attempt to a PostgreSQL database fails, is not really helpful.

Even if you type in a non existent IP address or non existent database, there seems to be just one error message that is presented to the user: Connection not successful, try to change the encryption settings.

It would be tremendously helpful to have the possibility to view

    a) proper error messages

    b) a log file that shows the actual connection issue for debugging.

  • Hi,

Thanks for pointing this out. We have identified an issue in how the connection errors are captured and displayed to the user and we will fix it in one of our next updates.

    Regards,
    M.
