Using outlook for email open tracking

    Question

  • Hello,

Occasionally I send emails that I need to know if they were opened.   The recipient may be opening this email on an iPad, iPhone, other handheld or Web mail.

What I would like to do is create a 1x1 pixel PNG file, give it a unique name, place it on my web server and place the PNG in the Outlook message.  That way when the end user opens my email, they also make a web request for the 1x1 pixel file and create a hit.

I can't figure out how to do this in Outlook 2010.   When I create a new html email and  insert the picture into the email it creates a hit when I insert it but not when the email is opened by the other user.

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Tim
