WSUS cannot synchornize with microsoft update

    Question

  • Hi,

I had installed wsus in a windows server 2008 sp1 which was one of my dns. Now, I have changed my server and this server has been depromoted. Because this I cannot synchronize with windows update, the result is "unknown".

I have restarted the services "Background intelligent transfer service" and "Windows update", but the result is the same.

I can connet to windows update through internet so that is the problem.

If I go to Options > Updata Source and Proxy Server > Update Source (tab) I have selected "Synchronize from Microsoft Update" and, in the Proxy server (tab) nothing selected because I haven't any proxy server.

I don't know what more I can check.

Can anybody help to fix the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

  • I have installed sp2 on the windows server 2008 and the wsus has stopped running.

I'm not aware of any scenario in which installing WS2008 Service Pack 2 would negatively impact the operation of WSUS, but then, the last time I encountered this sequence of events was several yeras ago.

However, the next question, in any case, is this: What version of *WSUS* is installed on this machine. (e.g. Have you previously installed the WSUS Service Pack 2, also? Have you installed KB2720211 or KB2734608? Possibly the "not working" part is related to that.)

  • I had installed wsus in a windows server 2008 sp1

So, the first step here is to install Service Pack 2 to your Windows Server 2008 system, and then check back with us.

The machine is running an outdated Windows Update Agent which cannot be updated until Service Pack 2 has been installed.

  • Hi Lawrance,

in the server where wsus is working I have also installed lotus notes (server) and I would like to avoid to install sp2 there.

It seems that wsus stop working since I virtualized the w2k server.

Is there any to fix the problem without installing sp2?

    Thanks a lot.

    Regards.

  • I have installed sp2 on the windows server 2008 and the wsus has stopped running. After that, I restarted the windows internal database service and windows update service but the same problem.

Later I have restarted the wsuspool in iis 7, following the recommended steps to fix the problem but the same.

In theory nothing has changed, I mean wsus worked without having the sp2 installed in windows and I haven't changed anything related to the wsus release...
