  • Could you try to copy the files located under the "vol_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" folder in one of the shadow copy folder (File System/Database Backup/...)

  • Hi Jeremy,

I have copied the folders and data from following folders to some place.

       C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy\File System\vol_1321c55f-b318-44b0-bf16-22f6178677f8
       C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy\Microsoft Exchange Writer\vol_bb06ea25-ca43-4937-908c-d11babeb4985
       C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy\Non VSS Datasource Writer\vol_f9e9194a-2c12-4327-b00d-a2b2569da553

Also when i copy the above folders "Destination Long path" error occurs and some files and folders could not copied.

Now, How Can i restore this data to other DPM2010 Server.

    Thanks

    Prakash

  • Hi Jeremy,

I will follow the link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dataprotectionmanager/thread/93425c82-086a-4f2b-a124-938b58c5eec5/

    I have one question.

If i backup using  dpmbackup -replicas  then Will it be backup all my previous date replicas and restore points or it will take snapshot of just the current date replica.?

As , we want to take backup whole storage pool backup with previous date replicas and recovery points.

    Thanks,

    Prakash

Answer:  No, DPMbackup -replicas only creates shadow copies of the replica volumes and so you can only copy the replica data.  The way that VSS shadow copies work invalidates the ability to make copies of the recovery point data.

Basically, you are better off adding a tape library or a secondary DPM server for disaster recovery purposes.

? But is the shadow copy contains all previous date recovery points and data.

  • The Recovery Point volume does contain previous versions of a datasource.

DPMBackup -replicas mounts the latest available recovery point

  • Hi,

I have finaly followed the steps. But still i cannot see old dated recovery points.

    On Primary DPM2010 Server

    1. Run the command dmpbackup -dbbackup , dmbackup -replicas

    2. Copied all the data from C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy to other place.

    3 .Disabled primary server network.

    On Secondray DPM2010 Server.

    1. Give Same hostname and IP as Primary DPM Server and joined into domain. Installed DPM

    2. Restore DPM2010 DB using dpmsync -restoredb (which was copied from primary DPM)

    3. Goto Protection group click on ProtectionGroup->see replica path Details at bottom -> right click copy

    4. Mount the volumes using moutvol and copy the data you copied from primary dpm2010. see (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399552.aspx)

    5. Run consistency check.

    6. Now, The Agent Status is OK. and I can see the recovery points(not all).

    On DPM2010 Agents.(Protection Group)

    1. Run setdpmserver -dpmservername <DPMSERVERNAME>

    Thanks

    Prakash
