I've a SharePoint 2013 farm composed of a SharePoint wfe/app server and a SQL Server 2012 SP1 database server. I need to install PowerPivot for SharePoint and I think to install the SSAS in SharePoint mode instance on the SQL Server machine. I've read this
article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj218795.aspx and it seems that I need to install the SSAS instance on a server outside the farm.
Now, considering my scenario, can I install the Analsysis Services in SharePoint mode on the db server, that hosts the SharePoint databases? Obviously, I will install the spPowerPivot.msi on the SharePoint 2013 machine.
However, as an alternative, can I install the SSAS instance on the SharePoint machine?
As you have noticed, one of the nice things now in SharePoint 2013 is that the PowerPivot SSAS instance for SharePoint can exist in or outside of the farm. Once you have this configured you will then need to go into Excel Services and set the data
