Windows Server Migration Tools Error

    Question

  • I followed the instructions from this link. I receive this error when trying to register the migration tool

I ran Process Monitor and found out that this key was denying access:

I can't give Administrators Full Control over that subkey. I tried:

    - Taking ownership of the subkey

    - Reapplying the parents' NTFS permissions

    - Running regedit as the SYSTEM account ("PSEXEC -si REGEDIT")

Any ideas? I tried uninstalling everything from scratch, applying all latest patches, etc. I followed the instructions down to the letter. The base Windows Migration Tool feature installs correctly, but it fails after trying to run .\Smigdeploy on the source server. I am going from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012.
