DNS Forwarding Issue

    Question

  • Hello All,

I have a domain called (domain.local) and a subdomain called sub.domain.local.  On the sub.domain.local DC/DNS server i have the forwarder as the DC of domain.local.  Network connectivity is good but if someone tries to resolve google.com it does not work.  sub.domain.local has no internet access while domain.local does.  resolving google.com from domain.local works just fine.

domain.local has DC1 and DC2 both are server 2012 boxes

sub.domain.local has DC5 and DC6 and both are server 2008R2 boxes

  • another note, i have isolated this issue to one server.  when pointing the forwarder to one DC it doesnt work and when pointing to another it works.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your response.

If the DC doesn't work, is there any error message on event log?

    Please post here.

    Regards.

  • root cause was one of the DNS servers that had requests forwarded to it had internet access issues.  once we fixed the internet access issues everything worked.
