backup failure: PCBackup.NTFS.NtfsReaderException FileRecord has an invalid bytesAlloc field

    Question

  • Since I (unsuccessfully) tried  to upgrade one of my PC's to windows 8.1, the backup on one of my disks keeps failing. I suppose there could be a connection with the rollback, though I would have  expected issues on the C drive in that case, not the D.

    I use WHS 2011 as a backup solution. (equivalent win2008 I suppose)
Even when browsing to add or delete folders the backup wizards crashes (on the server)
Chkdsk /r/f  doesn't find any problem with the PC drive that has to be backed up.

    question
From what I can figure out from these log files a file located at FileRecord 514820 is blocking everything. When I remove the D drive the backup works without a problem.
Anybody any ideas how I can find the file in question? Or how I can get the the backup to work again?

  • Right: finally fixed my problem.
-First I moved all files on the disk to another disk
Even on an empty disk the problem above kept occurring.
Finally I reformatted the disk & recopied the data to the disk.
    After everything worked fine.
