automatic alert me for replies

    Question

  • This is still very much hit and miss. Seems to mostly not work if I'm replying via technet branding.

edit:  I just replied to four more threads via msdn branding and the alert me was not automatically set for any of them

  • <<it gets unchecked somewhere>>

How do you see a checkbox after submitting? Do you mean after submitting you are subscribed to the thread you are replying to?

  • Hi,

Thank you for reporting the issue!

Could you please clarify the steps you did and results you got?

    You did - Please confirm

    1. You have 'Always Alert Me By Default When I Post' checked in your settings

    2. You do not have Alert set for the current Thread, so you see 'Alert Me' link in the left top corner:

    2. You click Reply and 'Alert me when someone responds to this post.'  is checked

    3. You click Submit

Expected Result- does any of these results happens to you?

    1. Link  'Alert Me' changed to the 'Remove Alert' after page is refreshed. If the page is not refreshed, you do not see the alert set.

    2. On the Forums page you see a bell icon on the forums line

    3. You can see this Forum on the 'My alerts' page

    4. You are receiving mail if someone reply to this thread.

    Thank you!

  • Ok, thanks. It is all of them recently. I post almost exclusively to technet forms. If I post replies in MSDN test forums I do get the Alerts correctly so it may be a technet issue.

No after submitting I am not subscribed. I have to revist the thread and click Alert Me. The pic below doesn't happen much but sometimes I get this when clicking Alert Me

  • Yes, still an issue. If you navigate list and use down arrow to expand and reply = no alert set. If you click title viewing thread as whole page and reply then alert is set.

  • Ed,

I don't know what's changed. I haven't so much as rebooted my pc but around 10 days ago problem completely disappeared.

I know some others may have been fixed such as this issue

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/thread/85a1024d-c5e2-4c78-bbb7-07533bdcfa63

So I'll assume this alert problem was also part of the recent bug fix.
