Exchange 2007 and 2010 Problem.

    Question

  • Greetings,

I'm looking for some help for this scenario...

We have Exchange 2007 and 2010 in coexistance. Exchange 2007 has a 800GB in a 2.2TB disk. This is backed up fully by DPM every Friday without problems. We added a 1.7TB disk to Exchange 2010 and began moving our 900 mailboxes to this new database. The database filled the 1.7TB with the 800GB edb and the rest was logs. In order to mount the 2010 database we expanded the 1.7TB disk to 2.2TB. We then have stopped moving mailboxes...there are roughtly 50 mailboxes left in 2007. The thing is...in the exchange forum I was told that moving mailboxes from 2007 to 2010 can create a lot of logs...I'm thinking that doing a backup to 2010 will purge the logs. But in order to backup our exchange 2007 I had to add 3.6TB to DPM for exchange only. I'm looking for information on how DPM uses storage in order to calculate it because right now I don't understand it. I don't have 3.6TB storage to backup exchange 2010 if that's what is needed.

Is there a way to export the data DPM has backed up of exchange 2007 so I can use that storage to 2010?

    Is there any other choice?

Probabbly the exchange 2010 disk will fill up with logs and dismount...?

Thank you for your time and any suggestions.

    Ed
