    as a best practice, should you do first the Object migration job and then the collection migration job?

    roughly put I can find nearly the same 'items' in both jobs

    I might as well try it out in the lab environment, where i did first the Collection migration and then the object migration.

    during the object migration he skipped the items he'd already done during the collection migration

    so I guess there is not really a preferred order?

    It depends on your CM07 setup + configuration and your overall goal. There's (again) no one fits all answer.
