Console cannot connect to site databaseHi,

I have recently experienced an issue on a few occasions where the SCCM console cannot connect to the site database.

Our environment consists of a single site and the client base is growing at a steady state (currently about 4500 clients)
There is a main site server hosting most rolls with DP rolls on other servers. The SQL DB is on a seperate dedicated server.
I run the console on the main site server

Last week I tried to open the console and it could not connect to the site database.
After running some general checks I restarted the SMS services. Initially this did not appear to fix the problem however shortly afterwards it started working OK.
On Monday night this week I again experienced the same problem however it fixed itself after about 10 minutes
Last night the problem happened again but this time restarting services or waiting did not fix it. I managed to fix it by re-booting the site server.

My SCCM knowledge is a bit limited but I looked in what I believe to be the relevent log files.
The following error lines appeared in SMSadminUI.log last night when the console would not connect:

[6][23/06/2009 23:48:13] :System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException\r\n\r\n at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
[6][23/06/2009 23:48:13] :Transport error; failed to connect, message: ''\r\nMicrosoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.SmsConnectionException\r\n\r\n at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.WqlQueryEngine.WqlConnectionManager.ExecuteMethod(String methodClass, String methodName, Dictionary`2 methodParameters, Boolean traceParameters)
\r\nSystem.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException\r\n\r\n at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)

Although all appears OK today I have noticed the following error line has appeared in SMSAdminUI.log numerous times today:

[3][24/06/2009 11:22:53] :Property: 'SiteCode'\r\nSystem.Management.ManagementException\r\nNot found \r\n at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode)

Last night I noticed that smsprov.log had some errors but these have been overwritten even in the backup log. Today there are some instances of the following error in SMSProv.log:

[15A0][Wed 06/24/2009 12:58:02]:FAILED to set ThreadLocaleID to: 4147, error = 87

Any help of suggestions would be appreciated

Jim© 2009 Microsoft Corporation.
