Proposed SCCM 2007 Client Communication Issues

  • Thursday, October 27, 2011 5:56 PM

I am having some issues with SCCM clients communicating back to our MP and not showing that they have the client installed. If i access the machine in question with the client it does not see our MP and it will not resolve it manually. I have searched and searched for answers and cannot seem to find a resolution to this problem. This is a new SCCM deployment and we are using 2007 R3 SP2 on a server 2008 product. Everything is publishing to AD correctly and I cannot seem to find where the hangup might be. I have several sites that are reporting back that they are installed and are an advanced client, which is the most frustrating part. I have read pages and pages of threads here trying to find a solution and thought I would just try posting. I see that many of you provide great help so I figured I would give this a try. Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

Have you checked the boundary configuration ? Are you using AD site as boundary? Also, I would suggest you to check locationservices.log and clientidmanager.log files for details on the communication and GUID details...

I'm not sure, you've already gone through the below blog post of not

Thanks for the reply. I have actually used that blog post, which was very helpful but provided me no true fix. All of my boundaries for each of my locations are setup correctly. I am not sure however as to what you mean by using AD site as a boundary? Each of my locations for example, we will say one is location 39, so they use 192.168.39.1 - 255 as their boundary.

Here is what I am getting in the clientidmanager.log:

    <![LOG[RegTask: Failed to refresh site code. Error: 0x80004005]LOG]!><time="14:48:46.093+240" date="10-27-2011" component="ClientIDManagerStartup" context="" type="3" thread="3124" file="regtask.cpp:172">

You've assigned IP range as boundary and that is good. I think, you didn't post the locationservices.log details

    Are these workgroup systems?

Can you post the entire LocationServices.log (not here, somewhere like SkyDrive) and ClientIDManager.log?

Paddy, thanks for the reply. My boundaries are configured by IP address ranges. I double-checked this particular boundary and it is set correctly and is as follows: 192.168.90.0 192.168.90.255. My client installation properties are as follows: SMSSITECODE=CLS DNSSUFFIX=corp.corpname.com SMSMP=servername.corp.corpname.com. Am I missing something? See anything I may need to add? I appreciate you and anyone elses assistance I can get. Thanks!

      Has Code

Do a clean Uninstall of SCCM Client... with below command line..

    CCMsetup.exe /uninstall

Once above completed... execute this command line...

    CCMSetup.exe SMSSITECODE=CLS /mp:servername.corp.corpname.com DNSSUFFIX=corp.corpname.com

What i have seen error in your command is smsmp=

and also i recommend if there is a valid reason then only use the DNSSuffix option.... other wise cutt-off the DNS suffix option.......

    FYI!...

    Note1:

If this property is specified, SMSSITECODE must not be set to AUTO.

When this property is specified, client assignment looks for a DNS service location resource record (SRV RR) in DNS, which includes this DNS suffix of the management point. For the exact record format.

Note 2: By default, DNS publishing is not enabled in Configuration Manager 2007

Paddy, thanks for the help again. Are these not settings I can specify in the client installation properties under the client push installation properties? I am going to take the dns suffix portion off. I have DNS publishing enabled in SCCM as we do not use WINS. Do I have to execute this from a command line on every client? Forgive me if I sound confused, but I thought that was the whole point of the Client installation properties option. I will do this on one of the clients a let you know if it works. Thanks again!

I am not using a SLP as AD schema has been extended and everything is published through AD and DNS. I had added a SLP role to see if that would help be we do not use WINS so i thought that adding the SLP would not work so I removed the role. I was able to get the client to install with the default parameters I was using, but it would not install with the parameters you gave me. Any other ideas? Your help is priceless and I appreciate your time and effort Paddy. What still does not make sense is that some of my locations, about a third of them all, are working fine and show the client installed and being an advanced client.

If you have Boundaries problem then such kind of issues will come into the picture....

make sure you don't have a boundaries issues...

Is all these clients are assigned in the SCCM Console ?

Can you try this command line option

Whre c:\temp is your CCMcleint setup full source... Test this one systems and see

    ccmsetup.exe /source:C:\temp /mp:SCCMServerMPname.domain.com SMSSITECODE=CEN FSP=FSPserver.domain.com

I do not believe this is a boundary issue because all of my boundaries match the other boundaries of locations that are working. Yes, all of my clients are showing as assigned in the console. Forgive me, I do not know how to change the command line option for installing the client. How do I make these changes if you don't mind explaining it. The only place I know of to change installation properties for the client is under the client push installation properties. Apologies for having to clarify this. I'm a newbie to SCCM but I have read up on it extensively and also taken a class and have not seen or been shown how to do this. Paddy, your help is much appreciated!

Also, I tend to think that this is a installation property setting as I was making changes to it constantly because I could not get them to communicate properly and then magically a bunch of them started working. Initially I was using the SMSSITECODE=CLS FSP=servername.corp.compname.com and SLP=servername.corp.compname.com. I am not using or have ever used a SLP so I stopped using these properties. Let me know what you think.

Way-old thread here.  Diddy, if you are still reading and are still having issues, what are you seeing for status in the following components:

    SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER

    SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER

Also, how many sites in your ConfigMgr hierarchy?
