Is there a way to prevent help desk users from opening more than one Configuration Manager Admin Console on a machine?

I would like to know if there is a way to prevent help desk users from opening more than one Configuration Manager Administrator Console on their machine. I have looked around for informaiton on this, but did not see anything.

Is there any way to diable the Automatic running feature of an advertisement. (Via. Direct program advertisement and Task Sequence advertisement)
I.e. I would like to see the Advertisement in clients machine's "Run Advertised Programs" Window, but until the user explicity run the advertisement , it should not run automatically.

SCCM console crashes when I try to run certain queries

I have just set up an SCCM SP1 R2 site. My server is running Server 2008 and SQL 2008 (so KB913538 and KB932303 do not apply). The site appears to be happy & healthy. All components are working, all my Site Status bubbles are green.

However, Running the following query (and certain other queries created with the wizard) will cause the SCCM admin console to crash:

select SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.LastLogonUserName from SMS_R_System

I get this error message:

"An error occured in ConfigMgr. The ConfigMgr console will continue to function, however you should save your work and restart the console. After restarting the console, verify that your last configurations have been applied."

If I click on the DETAILS button I see the following:

After I close and restart the admin console I can run the query and it works. If I wait a while (more than ~30 minutes) and try to run the query again, the console will crash again.

Any ideas on how to narrow down this problem?

Site System Status Critical

Hi,

The site system status for ConfigMgr Software Update Point is critical. But actually I have deleted the error message and reset the count.

It shows "down since 19 nov" and availability is online. It also shows \\server\c$\SMS but in fact it's \\server\d$\SMS.

How could I clear the critical alert?

SCCM Console Users who are NOT site admins cannot use the "Manage Distribution Points" wizard for packages (see error below). They can use the "New Distribution Points" wizard, and update DPs for existing packages.

SCCM 2007 SP2 (New Collection Groups?)

I just updated from SCCM 2007 sp1 to SCCM 2007 sp2. With SP2 there is now support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2K8, so after I installed SP2 I was expecting to see new collections for; "All Windows 7" and "All Windows 2008", but I don't.

Can somebody please clarify if these collections are suppose to be automatically created as part of the SP2 upgrade, or not. Thanks

Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 upgrade path

I'm already a little annoyed that there is no "R2" full install disk. I have to install Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, and then upgrade to R2. Now that SP2 is out, I'm even more annoyed because it's an upgrade as well!

So do I still need to install SP1, upgrade to R2, and then upgrade again to SP2?

Are all of the R2 features included in the SP2 upgrade?

Can I just install SP1 then upgrade to SP2 and skip the R2 install?

Is there anyway to slipstream all of these updates into a base install package so I can deploy the latest version of the console to helpdesk machines without all the upgrading?

SCCM Domain Change

My company went through a merger about 1 1/2 years ago and we are now moving each legacy domain into a new, single domain. I have SCCM 2007 in place in my location and need to move it to the new domain. Is there any documentation out there that can help me with this task or am I going to need to uninstall everything and recreate my setup from scratch?

I am looking to disable the PXE service and/or stop it from running automatically but I don't see a way to change that in the ConfigMgr Service manager. It is giving me some Event Log Errors that I could do without and would rather not have it running at the moment, although I still do want the role installed on my site server.

Any ideas?

Hi, Recently upgraded to Windows 7 and on my old XP machine, I used the right-click tools on an hourly basis. I cannot get version 1.9 to install on my Windows 7 machine. I get this error:

The file C:\Windows\accache.vbs cannot be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory. Access is denied.

I have local admin rights and my available drive space is somewhere around 100Gb. Is this a Windows 7 thing? Or a right-click tools thing?

Anyone else having problems using these tools with Windows 7?

I rebooted my computer and a blue screen came up that siad that windows had been shut down to prevent damage. It followed with a STOP 0x00000024,(0x0019023,0x81EF2628,0xC0000102, 0x00000000). I have tried to get it in to Safe Mode and can NOT. I Have also attempted to reboot with my XP CD. It starts and gets to the point of pressing R to repair. When I press repair in goes to another screen and nothing comes up. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Identifying current SCCM Console connections

Is there a way of identifying who has an SCCM console connection to a site server. For example, if the site server needs to be rebooted, I'd like to be able to get a list of people that have a connection and warn them that the console will be down momentarily.

Set security right to a advertisement and package folder

Hi

Our package team would like to test their packages on SCCM, but I don't like giving them full rights to the console.
I solved this with collections by creating an empty collection and giving their users the security right to only this collection. Now they can create subcollections under this.

I would like to do this with packages and advertisements as well. I have created one folder for advertisements and one for packages. Is it possible to set security permissions on these folders, so that our package team can create adv. and packages only under theese folders?

We are trying to set it up to where they can only advertise to a collection and view the contents of the said collection. So, we have a collection based on all computers in our domain. Then, I have another collection they need to add computers into using "Computer Association" and remove computers, but I can't seem to tweek any of it just right.

The problem is when I add that group and it creates two instances for the Collections:
"INT\Helpdesk" "Collection" "(All Instances)" "No Permissions"
"INT\Helpdesk" "Collection" "DOMAIN" "Read, Use remote tools, Advertise, View collected files, Read resource"

The problem is that I can't see anything. I see where I can expand Site Database > Computer Management > Collections > DOMAIN, but under that, I see the two Collections that I am allowed to see, but I see nothing under them, as in, there are no computers listed and I can't see their sub-collections.

How can I get that fixed and be able to have them send advertisements to the 2 collections I need them to (1 collection being a parent of many sub collections) and be able to add computers with Computer Association to 1 collection called "Imaging/Reimaging"?

When our AD discovery runs, it does not seem to be pulling back the SMS_R_System.SystemOUName back. I use this data to see which OU the computer has come from. Does anyone know why it is not being pulled back in to SCCM? When I do a query against the computer object, the field is blank...

I run the AD Sys Discovery every day, and from the log, it seems to be running OK. I run the AD Security Group discovery every 5 miuntes (targetted to one OU). Again, this seems to be running OK.

How do I get the System OU information for each object to update the SCCM console so I can use it in queries?

Clients that were set to "approved" are now set to NA.....

Hi, We have numerous clients that we installed the SCCM client to and we set them to "approved". Now, a few weeks later, some of those clients now have a "NA" under the approved column, and, under the Client column, it says "No", even though they defiantely have the client. Any idea what might cause this?

FWIW, these machines have not been on the network for a couple of weeks, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it. ??

How can I get a list of all Atribbute Class and their Attributes in SCCM?

Anybody know of a way to make a report or run a SQL Statement that will return each Attribute Class and its Attributes used in SCCM? For example, when you create a Query/Collection and you go to pick the Class and then the attribute. Well, that is the lsit I want a List of all the Classes and what Attributes each has. Currently people have to click on each class to be able to see what attribs they can use , then they go to the next and do it over again trying to find the criterion they want for their Collection/Query. It would be easier to print these out and reference that way. I thought we used to have a way to do this but am unable to find it.

Admin Console - no Reporting Services after SP2 on R2 install

Have installed SP2 on my R2 system. Admin Console on Site Server is fine. After applying SP2 to admin workstations, Admin Console on some are OK, but on a couple of machines I cannot get the Reporting Services node under Reporting to show. Have reinstalled Admin Console with full version (not upgrade) of SP2 and get same results. These machines *had* the reporting svcs node previous to the SP2 install.....

Any tips? Suggestions.

When creating new queries in the SCCM console, the retuened results show with column names like SMS_R_System.Name and so on, but the built-in queries just have "Name", "IP Address", etc. is it possible to set the column names for custom queries?

config manager MMC not initialize snap-in

Hi,

I am working on SCCM 2007 SP1 with remote SQL 2005 server. It was functional properly since yesterday till I have installed reporting role. After that I lost connectivity between site server and SQL server. Later on I lost all snap-in from SCCM MMC and right now all the SQL services are On and I can access Site server from SQL server visa versa but there is no snap-in in MMC.

To resolve the issue I tried..

1/ done disk clean up from File-> option -> delete files.

2/ rename the “adminconsole” in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC

3/ Remove the site from MMC and try to reconnect. Now it won’t allow me to reconnect the Site

Does anyone has any remedy to connect the site with database and get the snap in back.

Secondary site Installation

Hi,

I've tried to install Secondary site from Primary site server by giving an option New secondary site server. When I watch in the secondary site server, it can able to download the files from primary site server.

Query based collection that displays Distribution Points.

Here is the query I have setup:

It works well, however it displays distribution points that have the role removed.

How do I remove the "SystemRole" from computers that are no longer being used as distribution points and have been removed from the "site system" node?

New collections will not populate.

I have just upgraded out sms 2003 server to sccm 2007 R2 everything seems to be good I can Push the new client to any pc in any of the pre-existing collections and they recieve it with out issue, However when I try and create a new collection it doesnt seem to actually finish (hour glass).

I have tried multiple refresh and have left it over night to think about it (the pc not me) however it still does not want to fill with information.

I am creating the collections using a simple value System resource - System OU query.

Any logs I can check to see if there are any problems. I might be wrong but to me it seems like the MP and SQL database are not working correctly or replicating?

Any Ideas?

Ok, just recently (within a week) whenever we try to remote admin using SCCM onto a client machine we are prompted with "the currently logged-in user does not have rights to access the client machine". Nothing has changed (well nothing manually changed anyway). I have verified that the group domain\Administrators is in the list of permitted viewers etc. I can't seem to figure out whats going on. Certificate problem perhaps?

I want a group of people to access the console with limited rights. I setup those rights in SCCM. I have add the group to SMS Admins and DCOM user group. I did the DCOM registration. When I launch the console, I get "this function is not supported on this system". When I go via MMC and select the cosole - I get "The user is not authorized to connect this server". SCCM is setup with SQL 2008 on a seperate server. Do I need to grant access on the SQL server or is there a piece I am missing to allow access to the conosle.

Admin console has delays when accessing Collections for remote control

We are SCCM 07 SP1 our help desk is using the admin console. What is happening is when they bring up the different collections to remote control workstations there is a noticable time lag when they right click on the workstation to click on Start, Remote Control. I can see in the lower right hand corner it says "Display context menu updating selection state" Sometimes this lag is like 20 seconds or so and is very frustrating for them. Has anyone expiernced this or know any fixes. Thanks in advance for any help.

WMI stops working

Every now and then our DB stop responding when we are in the admin console. Restarting WMI solves the problem.
There are no error messages in the event viewer indicating what might be wrong.
We are running the admin console from the primary site server where also SQL is installed.

I encounter a problem when going to site status->component status to see critical error. However, I cannot see any error message record when click on it. And this problem only occurs when try to see error message on secondary site. The primayr site is OK.

What would cause this?

Hi,

I have an SCCM 2007 SP1 server and I use WOL to wake up clients at a specific set time. However as it has been 1/2 term the systems were not required to boot up, so I unchecked the option "Enable Wake On LAN". When I came back approximately 2 weeks later, I re-enabled the "Enable Wake On LAN" option and clicked on apply. However for some strange reason WOL is not waking up clients.

Hi, I try to install the SCCM Admin Console on a server that use the PXE SCCM Site System, but i'm unable to install it.

When I launch the the installation, I receive the message:

Setup has detected that this com^puter is a site system for an existing site. Configuration Manager components cannot be installed on this computer.

Remote Control and Asking Permission

I work at a school district and am currently working on a migration to SCCM 2007. In testing, one thing we are very used to having in our current setup, (Novell Zenworks) is the ability to require permission to remote control staff members, but not require remote control to students. This apparently is a site setting, and am wondering if anyone has found a way to tweak this so that we could have different remote control settings depending on the user. IE Group policies making this setting. Thanks

Getting access to a new node in SCCM console after another admin upgraded the site and now has left the company!!!

I have come across a dilema. Beginning of the year an admin left the company and he upgraded his SMS primary site to SCCM. Well all the new nodes that show up in the console we do not have access to anymore. When we go right click, permissions only his account shows up there.

Since he has left the company how do we get access to this? We do not see the option to, for example to add security for OSD.

Any help will be appreciated.

SMS 2003 Admin console asking for credentials?

Hi, I have a problem with sms 2003 sms client on a few systems (xpsp3) I have a remote user who has right to start a remote desktop using SMS 2003 admin console. She is in the group of remote viewers but she is not allowed. When I change something in the SMS registry then she is able to work but after a few hours she cannot start the desktop anymore. I'm using SMS 2003 with SP2. All the clients are sms sp2 clients. Please advise

SCCM Console not installing with /script option

I have shared the SCCM Service Pack 2 on the SCCM server. I have tested a normal install and it goes through fine Windows XP Machine with Prereqs installed. I uninstalled the SCCM console and loaded the SMS 2003 console again as I need to deploy the SCCM console to upgrade the SMS 2003 console to the new one. This is the script file I am using (setup.ini):
