QuestionIs a PC Utilization Report Possible?

    It may be best if I explain the situation before asking the question;

    We often have departments asking for additional PCs.  What I would like to do is to run a report off based on a collection, and examine what the %usage between the hours of 9am - 5pm was.  i.e what % of the time was someone actually logged in to each workstation.  So that I can look at the stats and say "PC01 was only logged in to %30 of the time last week".

    does anyone know if this is possible using SCCM2007 via Asset Intelligence reports?

    You could do something with Software Metering.  If you meter Explorer.EXE, which runs when a user is logged on, and Screen Savers, you could use the results of the software metering reports to work out that information.

    I wonder if you would be kind enough to expand on this.

    I have created a software metering rule for Explorer.exe and enabled it.  What report would I use to leverage this data?

    One example would be :-

    Category: Software Metering
    Report Name: Computers that have run a specific metered software program

    Have a look at the other reports in that category also.  If you've just enabled the rule you won't see anything for a week or so.  You won't get the information as specific as betweeen certain hours, but you will certainly get average usage per day.

    If you have a policy on screen savers, you could stick the executable for the screen saver in as well.  That would give you an idea of who'd logged in, but pretty much doing nothing.
