I have read through a number of books but am at a loss where to start. What I have been asked to do is push out a .reg file to the company. We're using SCCM 2007 and all users are on Windows XP, the reg file has been written and is a key that will auto refresh cache in a document management system.

If there's a simple guide to this somewhere please just give me the link or any points or hints are much appreciated!

Thanks in advanceMon, 16 Nov 2009 10:56:22 Z2009-11-16T15:34:50Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/8ae68805-bfa8-4a39-8b18-469119068efbhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/8ae68805-bfa8-4a39-8b18-469119068efbLMichelhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=LMichelBroken link to kb968177 Hello

I'd like to read the knowledge base article kb968177 but the link seems to be broken.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968177/

Found nothing to report a broken link ?

Can someone give some information about this KB ?Mon, 26 Oct 2009 11:10:31 Z2009-10-29T09:20:11Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/31f6b498-f38d-470e-b9db-e3dc23a71be6http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/31f6b498-f38d-470e-b9db-e3dc23a71be6spab1981http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=spab1981SCCM with WSUS and GPOOk, here is our situation, we have 2 WSUS servers that we use currently for our monthly patching, we are just setting up a new SCCM server to eventually take over those patching responsibilities, I have been reading a bit and I was looking for a solid answers for our environment.

Our clients are configured in GPO to report and grab all the patches from our current WSUS servers. We would like to deploy new sccm clients to our servers so we can use the features of sccm and start the configuration of them. This is my concern, I have read somewhere, I can't find the actual post at the moment, that when you install the new sccm client on a machine that is already using a totally different WSUS server assigned through GPO that the previously used WSUS server will not work for patching on the clients that already have the new sccm client?

Can someone help me out on this? Thanks!!!Fri, 23 Oct 2009 12:19:06 Z2009-10-23T14:05:39Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/ab2b2b24-8715-4bb1-a3c1-2c6df2883d67http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/ab2b2b24-8715-4bb1-a3c1-2c6df2883d67RWiehttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=RWieComplete list of status messages in SCCM?Hey.

I've been searching for quite a while now for a complete list of all the status messages and what they mean for SCCM but haven't found any. Meaning, what is the print experience that you want? It's one of those questions that sounds easy up front, but when we dig into it, there's more going on there. This will of course be an imprecise way to gather the requirements, and of course we need it yesterday. But please, tell us more about how you want to get your docs in printed form.

Let's start with the print experience you currently have. You can:

A) print single topic in the smsv4.chm

B) print a topic and all subtopics in the smsv4.chm

C) print a topic from the TechNet version of the smsv4.chm content (it's the same content in both places)

There is no way to print a topic and all subtopics from the TechNet site. We know that's a limitation. Is that something you would like and use?

You can print the entire section you want, or even the entire library, from the .chm, but that doesn't seem to be doing it for you. What about that experience isn't working? If we made it so there is a page break after every topic you print from the chm, would that help? Or would that just waste paper and annoy you?

Some Background

If you care, here is a bit about why things are the way they are. Not trying to whine or give excuses; just saying that we have some constraints that we haven't been able to get around yet.

For example, getting bound volumes for sale is not an option. They take months to produce and they are out of date almost as soon as they are sent to the publishers. We offered bound books of the SMS 2003 content and we sold a handful, I think less than 100. So that's out. If you like a printed book, Steve Kaczmarek's update to the Admin Companion will be out soon from Microsoft Press. (Side note: if the book comes in under the max page limit for an MS Press book, it will be just barely. With every version, this product keeps getting bigger.)

Several people in other threads have mentioned the MOM content as an example of what they like, however the MOM content is not structured at all the same way, so we can't package the ConfigMgr content up in the same chunks. They used a flatter table of contents with fewer, larger topics. Their content design ended up happening much later than ours, and the design constraints were different. Also, the scale is different. They have about 400K words and 1600 topics and the product performs a few major functions. ConfigMgr has 1.12 million words, 3000 topics, and is more of a suite of products packed into a mostly common infrastructure. Even if we had the resources to go back and rewrite all of the content in the MOM-like structure, it woudl be like trying ot fit an octopus in a pair of footy pajamas.

What we did do is group content into the following buckets:

Getting Started

Planning and Deploying the site infrastructure

Planning and Deploying the clients

Configuring

The Features (with each feature getting it's own section of overview, planning, configuring, tasks, security, troubleshooting)

Security

Ops (backup, recovery, maintenance)

Troubleshooting

We hoped that those groups would make it easier to find what you wanted, and also to print what you wanted from the chm.

We have considered trying to repackage those chunks into Word docs or PDF/XPS format, but after you factor in all of the feature sections, that's an awful lot of chunks and because of some tools issues, we don't think it's maintainable for the life of the product.

We've also tried building the entire Library into a single Word file, but it's huge. Also, because we have lots of little topics, the TOC gets really confusing. We can't try doing the entire file as XPS or PDF because it's just too big for the tool to process.

That's the situation now. I can't change the past that got us here. I still have several constraints going forward. But whatever insights you have about the printing question would be helpful.

Wed, 16 Jan 2008 06:16:19 Z2009-10-18T23:09:59Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/0c2bafa8-21a4-461d-9558-69d54a5a0751http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/0c2bafa8-21a4-461d-9558-69d54a5a0751spab1981http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=spab1981SCCM HelpWow, I hate to say this but it is going to be a very broad question. I have been asked to get SCCM working in our environment this week, particularly the integration with WSUS and SCCM. Keep in mind that I have never messed with SCCM before and it has been probably 6-7 years since I have touched SMS, I know they are pretty much the same thing though, so there may be some hand holding needed.

What do I need to do to get the clients properly configured to accept the client agents, I tried to deploy clients to a test machine and got no where. I manually installed the client on one machine haven't done a ton of testing on that except for the remote control seems to be disabled even though I have enabled in every place I know how.

Do you know of any checklists to do to preparation for the clients? Currently we have an SMS 2003 SP2 primary site with 40 Proxy MP's in our environment. We will perform a side-by-side installation to SCCM 2007 on a Windows 2008 64-bit server with SQL 2006 64-bit. In our test environrment, we have noticed that when performing an upgrade of the SMS 2003 client to SCCM 2007, the SMS 2003 site does not immediately release control or recognize that SCCM 2007 is now in control. Site boundaries on the SMS 2003 have been removed, but Heartbeat Discovery is on so we can perform a timely and structured rollover of the clients to SCCM. Our question is:

After upgrading the client, How long does it take for SMS 2003 to release control of the client and realize that SCCM 2007 is now in control?

Thank YouMon, 13 Jul 2009 11:57:30 Z2009-07-17T15:20:06Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/d8b9d9df-c129-4c5e-a748-6ee543bdd270http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrdocs/thread/d8b9d9df-c129-4c5e-a748-6ee543bdd270Lmadeoushttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=LmadeousSMS 2003 to SCCM 2007 Migration
We will be performing a side-by-side installation of SCCM 2007. Our existing environment consists of SMS 2003 SP2 32 bit Windows 2003 and SQL 2000 SP4 with 40 Proxy Management Points to handle client traffic and software distribution. We are moving to Windows Server 2008 64 bit and installing SCCM 2007 SP1 with SQL 2005 SP1 64 bit in the same domain.

How do we prevent an existing software installation from SMS 2003 from reinstalling on a client that has been upgraded to SCCM 2007?

For example, We have Office 2003 deployed from both SMS 2003 and SCCM 2007.
