Conflicting Threads - Is SCCM Client Deployment Supported on Windows 7 yet?
- Greetings,
Some people say they've got it installed and others are experiencing errors. I can't get my SCCM client properly installed on some Windows 7 test machines. It installs but doesn't show and components as installed, the configurations tabe is missing, and only two actions show in the action tab. So, is client deployment for Windows 7 supported yet and if so what version of SCCM do I need to be on? R2, SP1, SP2 (which isn't released yet if I'm reading correctly), etc.? I'm currently NOTon R2 and running in native mode. Thanks for the help.- Moved byCarol BaileyMSFTSaturday, November 07, 2009 6:52 PMNot specific to native mode (From:Configuration Manager Internet Clients and Native Mode)

- At minimum you must install the following hotfixes for Sp1.

If you are running Sp2 then you should have full support for Win 7
SP2 came out Oct 22 with Win 7

- Thanks. These may be dumb questions (alright . . . they will be). The hotfixes only look like they are available for x86 systems. When I try to install them it says it is for another platform. Anyone know if there are x64 versions as I can't see any on MS' website.
Second, do you know if downloading SP2 is a straight "patch"? It looks to be the same size as my install media which I get through a site license where I work. Will this down/install ask me for any new product keys, serial #s, etc. or will it recognize a valid install currently and run? Thanks for any info.
I'm not sure why people are chomping at the bit to get Windows 7 rolled out. I like to have a burn in period first :-)
Regards,
AJH I am sure what you mean by "a straight up patch", but yes it is a patch and it adds the Win 7 functionality. Some people want it strickly for the fact that it correct several issues. I personally haven't installed these patches so I don't know if there are a x86 or x64 versions.
http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com- SP2 is so big because it includes WAIK 2.0 which is quite large all by its self; in the end, it is truly just an service pack full of updates and not a reinstall or clean install (except for the WAIK 2.0 which is a full install).
As for the updates, you must click on "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" link to see all of the updates -- I think that it defaults to showing you the platform for the system you are trying to download from which of course may not match up to your ConfigMgr site server.
Also note the official line from Microsoft is that SP2 is the recommended path to support Win 7 & 2008 R2; the patches were a stop gap that provide some limited compatibility.
