I forgot to mention my environment

    SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 -mixed mode

I have 1 management point with the DB hosted remotely. 2 distributions points. All are on server 2008r2.

Software and hardware inventories were working correctly a few weeks ago. Everything else is working, OSD, software deployments etc.

    Thanks

    yeah

Hardware and software inventory is set to run every 24 hours. Just to remind everyone, it was working previously.

    yeah

Have you made any changes to the SMS_Def.mof files that can have caused inventory to break? If you look at the inventoryagent.log on the client, can you see if it's still running? I have previously seen that changes to the the mof files break the inventory agent.

Problem was resolved by re-installing the management point. I opened a case with microsoft. Unfortunately due to time constraints we were never able to get to the root cause. The call was escalated to the IIS team who suspected incorrect permissions on the virtual directory in IIS.

    yeah
