Multicast hangs after SP2
Multicast hangs after SP2
- We upgraded our SCCM 2007 R2 SP1 servers to SP2, after this stated to see a new problem with multicasting now working correctly.
What we`re seeing is the clients will start to load the Task seq. for multicasting, they will even stated "opening multicasting session for \\serverx" but they never continue past this, the task bar never moves, the file created on c:\_smstasksequence\packages\ is showing a size of 0. I~ve checked both the logs on the sccm-site, the MCS servers and the clients. Nothing is showing any error messages, the client logs shows that it`s connected to the mcs session with out any problems.
Has anyone else seen this problem, or a solution to the problem???

- did you update your boot images after the upgrade ? did you redistribute them to the dp's
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - yes, we even switched to the new boot image, this didn`t help. We also tried using a New imported WIM (Windows 7) 2.2gigs in size. This too is having the same problem, it just never starts downloading anything on the MCS server.
- is there any clue in your SMSTS.log file ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - that`s what is strange, neither the client of the servers are reporting any errors in the log files.
- ok did you have any sort of microsoft deployment toolkit integration before upgrading to sp2 ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - we had a full working deployment with MDT install on another server, then we ran into the Multicast problem with the Hash problem for Wim`s over 4.4gigs. After getting the Hotfix from microsoft to correct the problem. We were able to mutlicast for about 2 months, than it stopped again with the hashcode error.
So we waited for SP2 to be released as Microsoft informed us this would correct the problem, but it seems to have caused a new problem. :( - so mdt is not integrated with SCCM then ? did you uninstall the hotfix prior to install sp2 ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - no mdt is intergrated, sorry.. no re-didn`t uninstall the hotfix.
- so mdt IS integrated ? i'm sorry but you are not clear, if it is then I want to see if that can be part of the problem
what version of mdt is it ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - we currently have MDT 2008 installed on our Pxe boot Server. and Yes it`s integrated into SCCM
- ok then perhaps the two problems are related ? any reason why you are not using mdt 2010 ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - nothing in the documention stated we needed to upgrade our MDT to 2010..i can look at doing this..
- i'm not saying you should, i'm just saying that i've seen issues with boot.wim images AFTER a sp2 upgrade IF those images had mdt integration beforehand..
see this post and this for ideas..
your problem may not be related but ya never know...
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - well i`m at a loss, i`ve upgraded the MDT to 2010 on the DIST servers, still doesn`t work. All logs files state that the mcs session is active, but it never downloads anything...
It`s getting to the point where we thinking of reload our whole SCCM setup from scratch.. - sorry to bang the same drum but after you upgraded to MDT 2010 did you redistribute those MDT boot images to the DPs ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - yes, i`ve tried everything, nothing is correcting this problem.
- ok found the problem the hard way. it seems the SP2 upgrade screwed up my DIST servers. I ended up install a new Dist server from scratch and now Multicast is working correctly..
- dist server ? can you clarify what you mean by that..
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - the distribution servers were the problem..
- you mean the distribution points ? what gave you the clue ? SMS_Distribution_MANAGER logs or something else?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 - nothing really, it was just the last step i could take before reloading SCCM from scratch..
- can you please clarify this, did you reinstall a server which was a DP ? did it host any other role like PSP ? i'm trying to understand the solution to your problem...
