AnswerCan You Display A Message Before Updates Are Installed

    Hello

I am in the process of deploying Internet Explorer 8 to all our sites around the world via Software Update but what i need is a message to come up on the users screen when they click on install that says (Please make sure that all the programs you use are compatible with IE8 Before installing this update) this is because some users use some in house written software that is not compatible with IE8 or run test machines that have to use IE6.  I can add pc's to a block list but we don't have a list of affected pc's so would like to leave it down to the users on this one.

I know i can create a package for IE8 and can then display a message but the problem with this is that i will have to create a package for every different language we use which is about 20 but sending it via software update gets round this problem as we have it downloaded in many languages already.

So summary of question is Can i have a message appear on screen when the user goes to install a software update sent via config manager 2007

    Many Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

There is no built-in process to display a custom message for a specific package. As I see it you have 3 options:

    1) Modify the Software Updates message in the computer client agent.
    2) Use the SDK to run a program (the message) and then trigger the deployment.
    3) Specify a deadline and start time for IE8 e.g 01:00 pm. Create a normal package with a custom message and assign a mandatory schedule at 12:59 AM
