AnswerSearch Folder Criteria

    Hi,

    I'm messing around with the Search Folder Criteria for Software Updates. I planned to create seperate search folders with criteria:

    - Product: Windows Server 2003

    - Product: Windows Server 2003 x64

    - ...

    Adding  "Expired: No", "Superseded: No" ...

    This way i would have had all updates per type/per platform, drag & drop on a template and create a deployment package.

    However there's no differentiation between x86, x64 and Itanium. Apparently there's also no means, afaik, to add criteria such as 'NOT Itanium' for example. I could add 'x64' as title criterium but then i seem to miss all  .NET or XML stuff ... so it's back to handpicking again.

    Cheers,

    Serge

    We support the WSUS product classification in the search folders.  However, I think you may be able to get most of what you want by using update lists.

    1.  Try using the search folder you created as described above,

    2.  Then use the text filter at the top of the list view with "x64" or "itaniuim" to help identify the updates you want to deploy,

    3.  Select the updates for deployment and then right click & select "update list"

    4.  Go through the wizard and then you now have a list of updates you want to deploy

    5.  Drag & drop on template to create deployment

    Hi Marc,

    I'm aware that you follow the WSUS classification. Which is imo a bit inconsistent, because for XP they differentiate between the x86 & x64 version and for other products they don't ...

    I actually had hoped to be able to add operators in the Search Criteria, such as for example:

    - Product=Windows Server 2003 AND (Title NOT LIKE x64 OR Itanium)

    - Date Released=2007

    - Required > 0

    - ...

    My idea was to build Search Folders (or even Update Lists) that return for example:

    Update Classification = Security Patches

    Severity = Critical

    Product = Windows Server 2003

    Date Released = 2007

    Superseded = No

    Expired = No

    Exclusive Handling Required = No

    Required > 0

    And then the same for Windows Server 2003 x64, Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64, etc ...

    Cheers,

    Serge

    B-Serge,

    Did you ever get an answer back on this, I too want to do the same thing with our environment as we don't use itanium servers I would rather just not see there updates in my approval list.

    Regards,

    Leechy

    Yes, I did ... but not the one I hoped for unfortunately.

    No, it's not possible, the use of operators is not (yet?) supported, but it would indeed be handy.

    Cheers,

    Serge

    Look for the following criteria in your search folder:

    Title:
    2003 (
    x64
    x86

    Product:
    Windows Server 2003

    This will get you really close to what you want and will eliminate "almost" all of the Itanium stuff.
