Can I set the %Model% using a user exit script?

    Question

  • All, I have some Lenovo laptops that do not report the correct model using the default %Model% property. I need to do wmic csproduct get version to get the right model number for these machines.

    Is there a way to set the Model property in my customsettings.ini by pointing it to a User Exit script? For example:

    [Default]
    UserExit=MyScript.vbs
    Model=#GetModel()#

    In the GetModel() function I'd have some code to check if it is a Lenovo and then run wmic csproduct get version and if it is not a Lenovo I would do nothing. Should this work? Thanks.

Answers

  • If you search for "ModelAlias", you'll find a blog entry on the Deployment Guy's blog that talks about how to do this - including a user exit script that likely already does exactly what you need.

    Something's not working quite right with the TechNet blogs, otherwise I'd provide a direct link...
