  • Just import it as an application in MDT, and configure the Task Sequence or cs.ini file to inject when running the build and capture task sequence.

  • hi johan

using task sequence will work. but what im trying to do is provisioning the apps for users when they are login to win 8. let say computer A have 2 users with their own account. how to make them got the customized win 8 (start screen, apps, etc)? fyi, i have made a custom win 8 with lob apps, but when target computer deployed and joined to domain and user login he/she got the win 8 default start screen not customized one.

  • In Windows 8 RTM you can customize the start screen in the reference image, and then use copyprofile function in the unattend.xml when deploying that image.

In Windows 8.1 (that was made available today for testing), you can use group policies and powershell to controll more aspects on start screen and Windows 8 applications.

  • Tried before on W8 (not 8.1 yet) using copyprofile in unattended.xml but seems not working. after a user logon to domain, the start screen goes to default one, not customized

  • To get copyprofile working, you need to have a single account in the reference image (administrator), and set the copyprofile option in the unattend.xml that you use when deploying the image, not the unattend.xml used when sysprepping the image.

  • hi Johan,

the applications on start screen configured under local administrator account with copyprofile setting enabled. the machine was captured as image and produced as usb media and .iso. deployment is working well. when logon as administrator, the start screen is not reflected the configured screen, got same result when logon as standard user.

  • from your video, i understand that for copyprofile working is only the setting under specialize phase must be true / enabled, and it must be in unattend.xml for deployment task. mine still not working as expected. i have convert my document into pdf perhaps you could comment which part that cause it not working. if so, where can i put the file?

  • The reference image needs to have a single account only (local Administrator) that is customized, and once customized, the refrence image needs to be sysprepped and captured to a new image.

I don't know what you are doing differently, but if you follow the steps I did in the Video you get a working copyprofile feature.

For troubleshooting you can review the setupact.log file

  • hi johan,

it working for start screen, but missing on apps which pinned to task bar. when login using user account, there's only IE and WE on task bar, other apps that pinned on taskbar is not copied over. any further settings to get it there too?

  • I haven't tried that in Windows 8, but taskbar pin doesn't migrate with copyprofile in Windows 7 since those settings are stored differently. See the comments in this post.

In Windows 7 I used scripts for this, but I haven't tried for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 yet.

  • Hi Johan

a test, im capture a customized reference machine with pinned apps, and capture to wds then deploy to client with unattend.xml answer file, so it's manually. all is working. meanwhile in mdt, copyprofile works as mentioned in your link above. i think better to get apps in desktop as icons as the solution.
