2 demoted DC's still listed as nameservers in all DNS-Zones

    Question

  • Hello,

I demoted 2 DC's (2008 R2) via dcpromo and everything worked fine. After demote and reboot I uninstalled the DNS-Role. Unforunately these both DC's are still listed in ALL DNS-Zones (20 Forward and about 300 Reverse-Zones). You can imagine that it would take a lot of time to remove the entries from ALL Zones manually.

I already searched for solutions but found nothing that would help me...

Is there a possibility to delete the entries via script or something?

    Cheers
    Miranda

  • Hi Miranda,

Please right click your domain.com in one of your DNS servers and choose Properties. In the Name Servers tab, you can remove the entries.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply...

the removal from Forward-zones is already done...but I also want to remove them from the Reverse-Zones. And because we have more than 250 Reverse-Zones that would take almost one day :-)

  • Hi Miranda,

    Thanks for the reply.

You can also right click your reverse lookup zones, choose Properties and in the Name Servers tab, remove the entries.

However, regarding batch modifying, you can try to post the question in our Scripting forums to see if guys there have idea about this. If none, you may have to do it manually.

    Thanks.
