I have DPM 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2. All patches installed. SQL is SP2 + RU4. Windows is SP1 + All updates. DPM is 2012 RTM.

When I run Setup for DPM 2012 SP1, I'm stuck on the SQL server screen - cannot pass it no matter what I try. Here is the screen:

Any idea why this may be happening?

    Hi Lync15,

If your remote SQL instance name is "DPM" (From your screen), you should use YourSQLServer\YourSQLInstance, so in your case YourSQLServerNameHere\DPM.

Well, here is the deal. My SQL server is my DPM server. This is the same server called DPM. Honestly I do not understand this screen.  I also do not understand why it is even asking me about SQL server as this is only SP1, not fresh install.

Any idea why SP1 wont find SQL server?

    Hi Lync15,

Does your DPM 2012 server have QFE3 KB2751230 installed ?

On your DPM 2012 server could you open Microsoft SQL server Management Studio and select Browse for more in Server Name field.

What is the name under Database engine ? Do same for Network Server Tab ?

Yes, Rollup 3 has been installed. I know that for sure because Rollup 2 was a disaster - it was a huge bug for SharePoint protection that kills DPM. Solution was to run special script to modify one table in DPM database to fix this bug. DPM database would grow to the max and SharePoint catalog cannot be created, but the issue was that DPM server will hang, all jobs will fail, etc. It was fixed in Rollup 3. So yes, Rollup 3 is there.

Today I discovered that DPM is no longer working after updating SQL Server 2008 R2 to SP2 + Rollup 3 last night. I have to deal with new issue now:

So this case is now on hold, and need to fix the new big problem now :-(

Ok, it is starting to be very interesting. I found the root cause why I'm getting this error (ID: 948). It is happening what I don't have DPM 2012 SP1 Support Files installed. If I install DPM 2012 SP1 Support Files (this is done by clicking on DPM Remote SQL Prep on Splash Screen of SP1) then I can open DPM 2012 Console and DPM works.

If I uninstall DPM 2012 SP1 Support Files, then I cannot open DPM (ID: 948) and backups don't even work. So somehow I'm now stuck with these files that must be there. Interesting also that if I uninstall these SP1 support files and try to install the same package from RTM version, I get error "Cannot install because DPM server is installed".

This SP1 for DPM 2012 seems to be most bazaar thing... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
