We have a secondary DPM server that consistently gets the error ID 30112 The writer experienced a transient error 0x800423F3. The primary DPM server has no issues backing up any of the clients. We have ran vssadmin list writers on the primary, secondary and our clients and everything shows no errors with any of the VSS writers. The event logs show that DPM encountered a retryable VSS error. We have tested on rollup 2 and 3. We ahve around 10TB free on the disk library. D2D only on both servers.

    DPM 2012 rollup 3

Just started receiving this error also. Tried recreating the protection groups on the secondary DPM server but that did not resolve the issue.

The operation failed because the data source VSS component dac89296-4329-48fa-9f08-6a29b9a853d3 is missing.

Check to see that the protected data source is installed properly  and the VSS writer service is running.

    ID: 915
Details: The operation completed successfully (0x0)

Turns out that the secondary DPM server was trying to backup the primary DPM server at the same time as the primary DPM server was trying to backup all our clients. Set the offset time to start 45 minutes after the regular backups in the optimize section. Working fine now.
