I have an iSCSI SAN which is direclty attached to 2 hosts. Hosts are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, are configured with Failover clustering, and have a valid cluster configuration.
The trouble is on the 2nd, when VMs are owned by this node, DPM fails to back the VMs with the following error:
Affected area: \Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\Security
Occurred since: 05/09/2011 19:34:04
Description: The replica of Microsoft Hyper-V \Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\Security on Security.Cluster01.PAX.local is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.
For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)
Failed to prepare a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) for backup as another backup using the same CSV is in progress. (ID 32612 Details: Back up is in progress. Please wait for backup completion before trying this operation again (0x8007173D))
More information
Recommended action: If you are using software VSS providers, we recommend that you use hardware providers. For more information go to [http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=179952] .
If hardware VSS provider is already installed on the node, check the status of CSVs used by this virtual machine from the Cluster Administration Console and re-enable direct I/O for the CSV. Then retry the operation.
Synchronize with consistency check.
Run a synchronization job with consistency check...

Inactivate alertWhen I check the event logs after backups from the 1st and 2nd Nodes, I get VSS errors on the 2nd Node [where it fails the backup], however no errors on the 1st Node. Below is a copy of the errors from the 2nd Node:

Other than that, a System State backup of the actual individual Nodes works perfectly well.
Any Ideas?

Hi
First, verify that you have all the requested hotfixes installed on the second node http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399140.aspx
If thats the case, verify your VSS's using the vssadmin list writers command from an elevated command prompt. Does all your VSS'es say that their in a stable state?
