i'm running dpm2010 (3.0.7707.0) and backing up windows 2008 r2 hyper v host. I have a mix of windows 2008 and 2008 r2 vm on this host. some of my r2 vms are backed up using child partition snapshot, but some of them are showing that they can only be backed up using saved state. I compared the VMbus driver version between the ones that can be backed using child partition snapshot, and ones that can't, and they are both the same version, which match the version of the hyper v host. 6.1.7601.17514.
what am i missing?

there are a few Things to check if you want to be able to do a Backup using "Child Partition Snapshot"
VHDs has to be fixed
VHDs has to be NTFS FileFormat
VM has to be up and running
VSS mus be running in the VM and the Shadowstroage has to be the original one
All Services and Applications in this VMM mus be compatible with VSS
