Forefront Error Code: 502 Proxy Error

    Question

  • We are running windows SBS 2011 Essentials and forefront. After rebooting the forefront, we have a problem to access outside FTP using Internet explorer (any version) with the error shown below.

    • Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The login request was denied. The logon account might have been disabled or logon information might have changed. Log on again to verify that the information was typed correctly. If the problem continues, report the problem to the administrator of the Internet server you are requesting. (12015)
    • IP Address: 50.196.172.x.x
    • Date: 1/17/2014 5:13:14 AM [GMT]
    • Server: SPCSEC.SPC.local
    • Source: proxy

However, Firefox and FileZilla FTP client don't have this issue. Why?

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting in the forum.

Regarding the current issue, please understand that Web proxy normally sends anonymous authentication information to an FTP site in the first request. If the FTP site rejects and closes the connection at the first try, this error is issued. As a workaround, please provide credentials in the URL, in the following format: ftp://username:password@FTPServerName when accessing an external FTP site that requires authentication from a Web proxy client.
