Create Site fails for workspace template SharePoint PWA 2010

    Question

  • Hello all, I have isolated the problem to one library that causes the failure.  Below is a breif history of the troubleshooting steps.

We made several customizations to our workspace and saved it as a template, the project will save in Pj Pro but fail to publish a workspace.  So I set provisioning back to a custom template that was created prior to the changes and added the custom libraries one at a time until the project failed to publish.  We did create a custom content type, but it exists in the working libraries? so I am not sure if this is the problem.  The three custom libraries were added to the workspace from library templates I created, and are very similar, just empty folders with a custom sort order.

    Here is the error

    • CreateWssSiteContent: Creating project site failed! Project Uid=dc55097a-5066-447c-8bfe-8e618bed8668, site URL=http://epmprod/PWA/WsTemplateTest4, site name=WsTemplateTest4. • The fix for this was to delete and then recreate the offending sub folders.

The error message above identifies one of the sub folders (folder does not exist) but there was a group of six, the main folder was recognized, just not the subs.  I have a theory as to why this happened.

This folder and it's sub folders were originally created in our document center, which has a different site ID than PWA.

The folder group that created the error was copied (doc center library)  and pasted (workspace library) using the library "Open in explorer" option, and then the library was saved as a template.  Then it was used in the new workspace template that failed.

only the sub folders that were copied and pasted failed, there were 12 other folders with subs that worked fine in the same library.

Just a theory, and a painful experience

  • Thanks for the idea. Once I got through all is the feature activation issues I got the same error that you have referenced.

What I did was removed all of the files and folders from the library and uploaded them back to the site. I was then able to use the template to create a new site without error.
