  • Hi, Igor here, I am a member of the Power Map team. This problem is now fixed. We confirmed today that if you set geography as State/Province for Odessa, you will see the two polygons. If you are still seeing the problem, clear your cache under File - Options in the Power Map ribbon, save and  close the file and reopen the file.

If this fails too, then  can try deleting the data layer and recreating it or copy the data in a new workbook and start all over again.

  • The POC that I'm working on has location that are in the sea or the international water. Hence there is NO a city label for Bing map to search. The most simple solution to this I found is to lookup the coordinates in wikipedia's article on that city. That in turn goes to geohack website.

For your city the latitude and longitude is -> 4730

PowerMap can work with those values.

  • Dear Rajib Bahar,

I don`t need to use city Odessa for my project, I have to use Odessa oblast(region)  in Ukraine as a polygon, but not like POINT.

  • can you draw a picture of what you're visualizing? When you mention region, I'm thinking you would want to highlight every city in that particular region... this tool does let you change shape of bargraph to polygon... the other thing i could think of is the heatmap and you can simply change the radius of it. Just throwing few ideas that you can try... It'll help if you can draw it out. thanks.

  • I'm able to reproduce the same issue. I believe you may have found a bug. Using your data I could plot every region except Odessa.

  • So, can you help me to solve this problem?

  • This may not be the best solution. In this situation while I wait for a MS-bug-fix, I would create a separate table where I list all of the cities under Odessa and the value. Add another layer to this tour in PowerMap project and do region highlight by cities. If I can think of a better alternative then I'll share it. Good luck!

  • PowerMap uses Bing maps. Bing Map behaves differently when that Odesa Oblast region is searched. That's my latest finding. I don't know at this point who in BingMaps you can contact. I hope there is some easy way to notify them of this possible bug.
