I have an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I have columns for which I have used the AVERAGE function.

When I try to cut-paste the average to an excel sheet it copies as REF!. I just need to copy the AVERAGE. How can I do this?

    Thanks,

    NG

    Hi

If you want to copy just the calculated average value, use copy then paste special, values in the new location. Paste special is on the Home tab as part of the drop down menu for Paste.

If you want to copy the formula then you will need to edit the copied formula to include the sheet name of the sheet containing the data, eg. =AVERAGE(sheetname!B2:B45).

Alternatively if the range of cells has a range name then the formula can simply be Copied and Pasted.

    Hope this is of use.

I think it is not working the way I want it. I have this hidden rows and I just need to copy the without copying everything. I shouldl just be able to copy 100, 150, 60, 80 but when I am doing it is copying everything which is in Row 3 to Row 25.

    Row 2        100

    Row 26      150

    Row 50      60

    Row 74       80

    Hi

If you highlight the numbers as though you were going to copy them.  Then click the Find Select button on the right end of the Home Tab.  Select Goto Special and choos Visible cells only.

Once you have done this copy and paste.  You'l need to use paste Special and values to get just the answers, other wise you'll copy the formulas.

    Hope this helps

If they are adjacent and contain data.  Click the cell in the left most column. Then either hold down Shift and double click the left border of the cell or hold down Shift and press Ctrl + right arrow.

Repeat the process with the bottom edge or down arrow unilt the column is selected.
