As we knew in Exchange 2010 personal archive feature is available. I would like to know how User will get mailbox and Archive mailbox access. Whether it is only accessible by using MS Outlook/OWA 2010?

    Thanks
    Vijay

You are correct, the archive mailbox is only accessible from Outlook 2010 or OWA 2010.

    Greetings,

Harold Wong did a webcast that reviewed the archiving features for Exchange 2010 and as always, he did an excellent job.  There were some QnA that he posted up here:
http://blogs.technet.com/haroldwong/archive/2009/06/19/exchange-server-2010-archiving-and-retention-06-10-09-questions-and-answers-log.aspx and it is worth reading some of the responses.

One actually addressed your question but others went into additional questions about the feature that may be helpful.

For example, is the archive mailbox stored locally like a PST?  Answer:  No, it is on the Exchange server and requires a live connection.
What archiving capabilities are available in Outlook versions earlier than 2010 e.g. 2003?  Answer:  Outlook 2007 and earlier have the native ability to archive to a PST file. If you implement a 3rd party solution, then more options are available. To access the Archive Mailbox in Exchange 2010, you will need Outlook 2010 or you will need to use Outlook Web Access in Exchange 2010.

There are additional ones that are worth reading to round out your knowledge.  Hope that helps.

    Hi,

If I understood well, archive mailbox stays inside the same database as primary mailbox. If that true, what is the importance of archive mailbox, if it doesn't help reducing database size. Can we just increase size of mailbox instead of creating archive mailbox? Is there any other benefit of using archive mailbox?

    Thank you

One major advantage is that the archive mailbox is not available offline, thus keeping your OST file nice and trim.
