Our exchange 2010 installation failed one day.   IOW, it will not start.  Since is will not start, I cannot unistall the database nor reinstall since there is data in existing data store.  As well since nothing starts I cannot utilize the command line utility to disable, move or remove any part, portion, data or entire program.

is there a way to manually remove exchange 2010 if the program/services/databases will not start?

    Thank you in advance.

Can you please post the full error and some of the "red" application logs when you attempt to do the un-install. Maybe previously failed un-install attempt, left reg key called WaterMark which can be found here, each role has it's own. WaterMark tells setup, what has happened pretty much....

On the Exchange server click start run , type regedit , hit enter

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    • Software
    • Microsoft\Exchange
    • v8.0

Although removing WaterMark key manually is not recommended, you could remove it and attempt to perform peaceful un-install.
