Upgrading to 2010 Exchange? (From 2003 x64 server/ Exchange 2007)

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 7:50 PMDoes anyone know the details or links to what sort of upgrade options will exist to get to 2010 Exchange?
IE: Will it be possible to just upgrade the server to 2008 R2 from 2003.. then run the 2010 exchange ontop of 2007.. or will we need brand new hardware to do this upgrade?
Or.. maybe wipe the OS of the system, keeping the DB intact, then do the 2008 r2/ exchange 2010 installation, migrating the existing 2007 data over somehow?
I believe our existing system is a dual Core woodcrest 5130 2.0ghz (2 cpu), with 6GB of memory.. I'm guessing our memory will need a boost, as it should have been bumped to 10GB already (we have 34 users, and roughly 40 mailboxes).
Thanks

There is no in place upgade support for Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. So, to do what you want you would need another box runnign Exchange move users off this box, then uninstall Exchange 2007, upgarde the OS then install Exchange 2010 and lastly move users back on to it. there is no way to keep the DB intact as we made too many changes to the store.

Friday, October 23, 2009 1:00 AMRead the installation guides. If you have limited hardware to migrate with, there are options like P2V'ing the current server, then reinstalling 2008 R2/Exch 2010 on the physical server and doing a migration off the VM.
