    Hello,

We havea user that works from home regularly and sends emails from her Outlook 2010 throught Exchange over VPN.  NOw the user is able to send emails hoever some nights she sends an email at the end of her night and it does not send until she comes in in the morning.  She has been in cached mode and disable cached mode and the same thing happens.  Oftentimes she is sending to multiple recipients.  I am thinking she shuts down Outlook before the message is sent through Exchange.  We are doing backups and other high network resource intensive taks on the netowrk at night as well.

Does the user need to see the email leave her Outlook before shtting it down eventhough she is on Exchange over VPN?

Do emails to muliptle recipients take longer to process out of the OUtbox when sending especially remotely?

How can I get this user to A send faster or B educate them on how to send emails before shuttning down PC at the end of the night when on vpn?

    Thanks

Exchange over VPN? Are you referring to Outlook Anywhere or Exchange in MAPI mode using a 3rd party VPN product?

Message basically need to leave the Oubox before shutting OLK, you normally get a promot to say message are wiating to be sent, if ignored they wont be sent.  This could be a possibility as you can close OLK without sending.

Check message tracking for a reported issue and see when the emails was actually submitted & delivered.

If the results show that it did leave in the morning, then the issue is on the client side as it never made it to the Exch server.

Educate the user and see how it goes.

No, it makes no difference, it's submitted to the HUB and the HUB server will deliver to each of the recipients.

That depends. What do you mean by several recipients? Are they in a DL or 60 distinct messages? If 60 distinct messages it can take longer depending on network latency and what mode Outlook is in to leave the outbox.

Note that you can have messages in the Outbox and be in cache mode and you wont know it unless you look in online mode or via OWA.

ALso, you never answered my original question. Are you using Outloook Anywhere or Outlook in MAPI mode over a VPN? That can make a difference and I would recommend your remote users use Outlook Anywhere.

We have them in Outlook MAPI mode.  I was in cached and then went to non-cached but it didn't seem to make difference.  It seems this is at the end when user  is shutting down.  It can be DL or some distinct.  Both times the messge didnt go out until user started up in office.

I would set them up for Outlook Anywhere rather than MAPI mode.

    Hi there,

I believe the problem is that the end user did not leave enough time for Outlook to complete sending message. May be the user has enabled delay delivery. Please check message tracking as Sukh suggested to find the root cause.

Generally speaking, the delay is mainly caused by the low network transport speed. This is because Outlook running in Cached mode will send the message immediately (within 15 seconds), and download new message immediately (within 30 seconds) when there is a change on the server. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870926.

When you are using Cached Exchange Mode, an e-mail message may remain in the Outbox for up to one minute until the next synchronization with the server that runs Exchange occurs. If you want to send the message immediately, click Send/Receive|Send All. However, it may still remain in the Outbox for several minutes because of low bandwidth.

Using Outlook Anywhere in external network might be better than MAPI mode in VPN. It depends.
