Existing 2007 PF structure and content does not replicate to Ex2010 box
- HiI have an Exchange 2007 SP2 organisation and I've installed a new Ex 2010 server for testing. The mailbox features are working great but for some reason upon creation of a public folder DB on the 2010 box, I get MSExchange Store Driver error 1020 messages on the 2010 box event log. (I should add I've specified on the 2007 to replicate the hierarchy and content of the folders, but the hierarchy on the 2010 box seems entirely disjoined.)The store driver couldn't deliver the public folder replication message "Status Request (EMAIL REMOVED)" because the following error occurred: The Active Directory user wasn't found. This is pretty weird as in ADSIedit I can see the mail and mail nick for the public folder DB object on the 2007 server is correct and actually matches the SMTP address in the error message above. Could it be a permissions issue in AD? (Exchange trusted subsystem has complete permissions on the relevant objects already).Totally stuck and it's causing a problem as messages intended for delivery to the mail enabled public folders that arrive from edge transport to the 2010 are actually being turned away as undeliverable. Please help!ThanksRob

- hi,
Hierarchy Hierarchy replication occurs when the properties of the folders and organizational information about the folders have been modified. All public folder databases have a copy of the hierarchy information. Modifying the following public folder information results in hierarchy replication:
- Folder name
- Replica list
- Folder's position in the public folder tree (including any parent and child folders)
- Permissions
Note: Hierarchy replication does not occur when you change the e-mail addresses for a mail-enabled public folder. The e-mail addresses are stored on the directory object in the Active Directory directory service. Only by changing the properties within the public store database does hierarchy replication occur.

- Hi Rob,
I'm experiencing the exact same issue.
Did you ever solve this issue?
I'v been troubleshooting this issue for some time now even reinstalled the whole E2010 environment but the issue still remains.
Kind regards,
Remco - Hi Remco,I worked around it by configuring the edge transport properties such that incoming email is only delivered through the Ex2007 box, and pointing all clients to the 2007 box for the PF structure.I wonder if it has something to do with the fact we run a disjoint domain (our truncated DNS name does not match the NETBIOS name) - waiting for the Ex team to complete the Technet article detailing guidance under such a domain. As I haven't changed any of the email addresses and non-mail enabled public folders are also affected I'm hoping the solution lies here. I've also separately discovered (and reported and had fixed) bugs in parts of W2008 R1 where such a disjoint scenario affected lookups in AD.Rob
- Same result on Exchange 2010 RTM (upgrade from 2010 RC). Unsurprising really. I'm considering exporting out the content from the 207 PF structure, destroying the hierarchy, tearing down the 2007 server and manually recreating the structure on the 2010 box before importing the content back in. Total faff!
- Well, this is definitely a 2010 issue. I've wiped down all PFs using ADSI Edit and created a new PF DB on the E2010 box. Same result upon transport from the edge: the active directory user wasn't found. Might have to PSS this one.
- I was allready running on RTM.
Clean install in an existing E2007 organisation (which has been migrated from E2003 some years ago).
I'm currently at teched berlin and I've been talking to some MS guys at the exchange 2010 Ask the Experts booth.
But non of them could explain the issue or point me to a solution.
They all said the issue would be with the mailbox server as the HUB accepts the PF replication messages.
The HUB talks RPC to the mailbox server.
But I was advised to open an PSS call.
As we can work round the public folder free/busy info using the availabillity service and do not have user folders we are considering phasing out the public folders all together as the clients are all outlook 2007 or higher.
But I still would like to see if we could recreate the issue as this is something which could come and bite you once more in other migrations....
-Remco - Please do let us know the answer. We are suffering from the same problem!
